Hi Joanne, I remember The Friendly Giant better also, but then, we only had one TV station...CBC. I always wanted to sit in the rocking chair..you know, 'For someone who likes to rock, a rocking chair in the middle.' My kids watched Mr. Rodgers from time to time. I found him to be very calming. Take care,

I think Mr. Rogers' show was the only show I didn't worry about my kids watching.

I remember watching him when I was little. My kids liked him when they were small. I doubt if there will ever be any more shows like his. |

My sons, both of them watched him when they were little.. They both commented on his passing to me this evening..Even at 42 and 36, their voices still had that tone of the utmost respect when they spoke of him.. They don't reveal that so often ..

His theme song kind of sticks in your head. Every now and then I catch myself humming "It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood ....." There's something about those words that just kinda picks up your spirit, like you're skipping down the street in your Mary Janes again. Any of you girls remember Mary Janes? Patsy Patsy

Oh Patsy are you talking about clam diggers, knee knockers or as we called them petal pushers? Are they the same? I often think back to my childhood (I'm in my 50's now) how nice it was growing up not having a care in the world except worrying if the teacher was going to make the test on Friday hard. That was my biggest worry then. On Saturdays we'd help clean the yard and cut the grass and clean the car and one at a time Mom would send us in for our baths and we'd all pile in the station wagon and get ice cream from the Dairy Queen or go to the Drive Inn show. To this day when I clean my car or smell the grass just freshly cut I think of my childhood and how simple things where then. I think Mr Rogers captured that simple time on his show. All the kids that tuned in had the opportunity to experience a simplier time even if their childhood wasn't as happy as mine. How sad, he will be missed. Susie[FONT=arial][COLOR=teal] |

I remember the Mary Janes... I hated them.. Found out after I became adult that I am allergic to Patent Leather.. No wonder I hated them.. Mary Janes were the black Patent Leather (shiny like glass) shoes with one strap across the instep.. The shoe was a pump shape.. I was always glad when May 1 came.. after that we could wear sandals to church and school and go barefoot the rest of the time until after Labor day and back to school..: Everyone always got new Mary Janes for Easter in our neighborhood.. I just never heard them called that. The dress code for school is certainly changed since I was in school. You couldn't wear pants only shirts and dresses. When it was really cold out the girls could wear leatards which were thick stockings. No tennis were allowed. Now they wear tennis and sandals and pants of all kids and in warmer weather shorts are allowed. How things have changed. Just walking down memory lane. Susie |
