Any one of my Canadian friends know someone who has gotten sick with this new scary pneumonia they are talking about? My son was addmitted in the hospital last Sunday with some of the same symptoms. High fever, dry cough, trouble breathing, but his tousels were swollen and it almost closed his throat. They gave him strong antibotics in the IV and steroids. He was better by the end of the week but it was bad there for a while. Now I just wonder if it could be the same thing he had. They said if his throat closed up anymore they would have to trake (?spelling?) him. It was scary. He's fine now. It came on him Friday and by Sunday he was that sick. Just wondering out loud. Scary stuff. I'm glad he is recuperating. This flu is scary too. I had a bad dose of it for two weeks, but the one from Asia is really scaring people. Pretty soon everyone will be wearing face masks. MaryW

We are facing a new world with the fear of terror and the new health problems that are cropping up we all really have to be on guard. My son is doing very good today, thanks for asking, but when he was sick he was very sick. It was weird the way it came on him all at once and then with the antibotics and the steroids he snapped out of it really fast. They said this morning that this new respiratory aliment started in China in November and has hit it's peak in China. I guess it takes a while to get around the world. Susie |

Be vigilant! This is an article from our Sydney paper: Fact file on the illness March 18 2003 What is it? - Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) is an infectious, pneumonia-like disease - It is believed to spread from person to person through close contact, probably through inhaled respiratory droplets [*Close contact means having cared for, having lived with, or having had direct contact with respiratory secretions and body fluids of a person with SARS. *From WHO] - The cause of SARS is unknown. This means there is presently no diagnostic test and no treatment - Incubation appears to be three to seven days It begins with high fever [> 38o C] and flu-like symptoms including headache and sore throat followed by coughs, breathing difficulties and pneumonia [[In addition to fever and respiratory symptoms, SARS may be associated with other symptoms including: headache, muscular stiffness, loss of appetite, malaise, confusion, rash, and diarrhea. *This warning came from WHO - World Health Organisation.] - Death results from respiratory failure, although patients can recover without treatment - China has said 300 people had what appeared to be the same illness in an outbreak that began last November in Guangdong province. Experts believe the most likely explanation is an exotic virus or a new form of influenza Where is it? SARS has killed nine people: in Hong Kong (1), Hanoi (1), Guangdong province, China (5) and Canada (2). Hundreds have been infected in Canada, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam In Australia, a Perth woman and a man and woman from Victoria are being investigated as possible cases in hospital isolation wards in their home states - Suspicious cases are also being investigated in England, France, Israel and Slovenia What's being done? - Global efforts to contain SARS are being coordinated by the World Health Organisation (WHO), which has contacted health authorities around the world - Eleven laboratories in ten countries are working to find the cause and develop a treatment through a "virtual research centre" - Airlines are stepping up vigilance and say they will not allow anyone with suspicious symptoms to board without medical clearance - Australia has activated surveillance and containment plans in all states and territories and sent a team of experts overseas to help investigations. I do hope this article provides some useful info for you all. It is no wonder that it is spreading so quickly throughout the world - we have 'progressed' to something we may not be able to control. |

Let us all PRAY and HOPE we can ALL pull through the terrible things that are happening in our WORLD at the moment – the SARS, the WAR, the very bad ECONOMY world wide! and can somebody make an Australian flag for me |

My thoughts and prayers also go out to all of you! Scary stuff indeed. We should remain cautious and careful, but also strong and steadfast. There are always threatening things around us, but some we are just more aware of. Marion

Susie, I'm glad your son is better. I think I've seen more illness going around this year than I ever have. My kids, DH and I have all had a time trying to shake off the colds, flu, and sinus infections this year. Frogy, nice to have another g.r.i.t.s. gal here. Where in AL are you? I'm in St. Clair county. |

Thanks Bama...........Everyone thinks I'm Italian but I'm not. I'm almost all French. My maiden name was Dauterive and my mothers maiden name was Bergeron. I guess the Spanish, Italian and French atmosphere here is South Louisiana has rubbed off on me. Actually I'm full blooded American LOL I married an American Indian, Irish, Englishman. So my kids are really a mix. LOL Susie |

Susie, Your mom's maiden name was Bergeron? We have a friend from Louisiana named Joe Bergeron. His wife is Linda. They live in AL now. He had a son, Joseph, who died several months ago. He has 2 other sons too. Ever heard of them? |

I haven't hear of them Bama. I have a cousin who's name is Joey Bergeron but he lives here and so does his son Joey. We are related to most all of the Bergerons in Louisiana someway so I guess he's a far off cousin once removed. LOL My Mom told us my Grandpa use to tease my Grandmother and tell her that they got caught stealing horses and was run out of France and my Grandmother wanted everyone to believe they came from Royality. She'd get so mad at him when he'd tell that story. My mothers Dad's family came from around Bayou Blue somewhere in Southeast Louisiana. My Grandpa Bergeron died before I was born and I didn't know any of his family so they are probably kin folks of mine someway. |
