I didn't want to talk about this. It's not something that anyone wants to face, but I think the world is at war.

I want our U.S. family to know that this site, myself and my Canadian friends and family are here for you. It looks like war is very close and is unavoidable.

Politics and religion make strange bedfellows. Please do not think I agree or disagree. I am just here if you need to talk.

Pres. Bush and Tony Blair will do whatever they think is right, but the rest of the world stands by and tries to handle the consequences.

Sew Whats New has a wonderful, large family, Canadian, U.S., European and many others. As any decent family would do, we will be here if you need to talk, we sympathize and would love to be the shoulder you need to lean on if need be.

Please, if you feel the need, post on this board so we can support and comfort when the time arises.

Political party views are always a sensitive subject. Please keep this in mind when expressing yourself. :Canada:

Lillian He's on my list.

I too think politics is a not very good to discuss. But you know eveyone has an opinion and this is mine. I think it is terrible that our young men and women have to put their lives on the line for countries who really don't appricate their effort. I think Saddam has the weapons of mass distruction that our president says he has. So this is what I think is the problem. Do we stay over there indefinately and not use force and just keep babysitting him so he don't hurt his neighbors? Or, do you stop him with force now so everyone can get back to a watchful but somewhat peaceful time again. I know the world will never be at peace totally. but with one more monster unable to hurt us and our friends in the world, I think it's the best way.

Mary you have your reasons for staying neutral and I respect that. It's best to be that way when you must for the sake of others. I've got a big mouth and I am an America and that's what America is all about freedom and that means freedom of speach, and I use that privilege freely sometimes to freely. LOL Those are my feelings on the subject. Hope I don't step on anyones toes but I love my country and stand behind the men and women who are trying to defend it. GOD BLESS AMERICA and OUR FRIENDS

I have pretty much the same view point that you do Susie. Up front, thank you all of our Canadian friends for your love and support and for just being here for us. As for every American, you do have the right to disagree with our President, however, our troops have been committed and it is now our duty to show our support and loyalty to all of these young men and women who are willing to go to war to defend our freedoms. So, unfurl the old red, white and blue and be proud to stand up and be counted as an American tonight.

I will pray for all the troups, being either Canadian or American.
This is a scarey and sad time for all of us. I hope that this whole situation can be resolved soon and I pray that all wiil understand that we need God to protect us. Maybe it is time for all of us to go back to God, not religion. That is usually the problem with many things. Religion keeps us apart and God keeps us together.

I am not personally effected with any of my family having to go. Our oldest son has one blind eye and our youngest has a crooked hip. We wonder sometimes why things happen to us, but now I am truly thankful for these problems, maybe this is selfish of me, but I can keep my boys at home. I am keeping all of the men and women in my prayers, and hope they all come home safely.

I had to post again and let those of you know that I hope who ever has any family going, that I am shedding tears for them, and you, that all might safe. I can not help my tears and I do not want to. You will have to live with worry and anxiety over you family members. God keep you all.

Shirley you said a mouth full when you said B]Maybe it is time for all of us to go back to God, not religion.[/B] This is the key to all what is happening in the world today. I pray to God and speak with him everyday. I do not go to church today because of religion. I feel like my belief in my God is personel and not something that is forced on me by someone else's beliefs. Again this is just my opinion and the way I look at things. I'm not trying to push my reasonings on someone else. But I do think that if the world would look at things in a happier way and not try to force other people to think like or act like they want them to the world would be a wonderful place to live. But then again it wouldn't be called earth it would be called "heaven".

Our parliament is voting today - remember that too in your prayers. I'm just asking God to rule over the whole situation. There is a lot of noise in the press about how the British people are against going into the war - the ones I speak to trust Tony Blair to do what he needs to. He is a man of good concience. We will do what we must.

First of all, my apologies to Mary – I started a new thread just now in ‘Take a Break’ not realizing you have something going here… My sincere apologies for that, Mary. :nervous:

Magot - you are right, English are supporting President Bush. But also, Australians. We have troops over at the Gulf and our Prime Minister Howard has a very close relationship with President Bush. [That's where I need that Australian flag!]

ShirleyP - you are so right, I always believed that RELIGION is the DIVIDER where GOD is the ‘UNITER’ (ha, I have just created a new word!). Let us all talk to GOD about the safe return of our UNITED FORCES!

Magot.............. On the lighter side. I Love Tony Blair. I think he is so cute. And he seems to be to a truely sincere man. President Bush and America are lucky to have him with us.

MissMinx....... I haven't forgot all my Australian friends are with the US. And I thank them also. I just hope this is quick and when the end comes the truth will prevail.

We liberated Afghanistan and the people of that country thanked us. I hope and pray that happens in Iraq. I think it will. I know if one of my sons were in the armed services I would be worried sick. I just can't thank our service men and women enough. I pray for them to return to their families safely.

Miss Minx, I heard on the radio today about Aussie support - our parliament are still debating but let's face it - we are on the countdown.

Todays poll in Uk 79% support Blair and Bush 21% don't. It will be very difficult for Blair if he says Go and his party say no - in only a few days time the world will be changed. What will we make of it I wonder?

Thanks for starting this thread Mary. I started to post one, but wondered if I really should. I've recently seen some heated discussions on other boards.

I agree with what Susie is saying, but I still respect the opinions of people who do not agree. None of us want to be at war.
I'm praying for all the troops over there. My thoughts are with all of you that have family members in the service. I thank God that my BIL retired from the military just over a year ago.

It's hard trying to explain what is happening to my kids. I'm trying to just answer them when they ask me something (If I know the answer) and not keep the TV on CNN all the time.

Praying it will be over soon and all the troops home safely...

Our church has a prayer list going specifically for any and all military personnel that we know to be involved in the coming war. I added three more names to it this morning of my co-workers family members.

Too bad Americans are dividing off and choosing up sides to have their own little war going on here at home when our troops need all the support we can give them. No wonder that butcher that controls Iraq is laughing and thumbing his nose at our President.

That Butcher won't be laughing for long. His prime minister has already defected on him Teric Azease (sp?) has left the building as they say in Elvis terms. He fled this morning to Turkey. They are giving up on the Kuwait border also. He's suppose to have already blow up two of his oil fields. It will get messy before it gets better let's hope and pray that we get him before he can use those Biological weapons. Praying ()

I thought that was a really intelligent move. It look to be a fairly new tractor. With the way things go in America he'll probably claim it on his insurance and win some fabulous amount of money. LOL

Any of you country music fans heard that new song "Have You Forgotten"?
I heard another one that supports our troops by Clint Black today. I liked it too.

At least some of our stars support the troops.
Natalie from The Dixie Chicks has really upset some people by what she said about our president. Alot of radio stations here are refusing to play them. I didn't like what she said, but I'm still listening to them. She's entitled to her opinion, I guess.

Bama I love music but I don't listen to the radio much anymore since all this stuff is on TV. But I think all Americans should support our troops and even if they don't agree with the president they should support our men who some of them didn't have a choice to go or stay. We live in a free society but when our men are over there fighting so we can keep our free choices I think we should refrain from negative comments until they are back home safe. Just my two cents worth.

By the way I don't agree with everything Bush does either but now is not the time to argue about things.

At least it was not another protest of the up coming events. The office I has at today got egged and rocks at the windows.

We also got a flyer that was printed out with phoney signatures of celebrities in protest of the war.

Hey I dont want a war but sometimes you got to do things you dont want to do. If not for the weapons he has but for the lives that were stolen with his backing.

Yes it so sad. I don't know if I would take it any better if it were one of mine either. Are you talking about the one that said "Bush do you see what you caused? He was my only son"? That is very sad. But you know some of these guys were offered a college education in return for signing up to the armed services. They didn't realize they might have to go to war when they signed up. Not meaning to sound condemning but they signed up for this and they weren't drafted like during the 50's 60's and 70's. They just don't realize if there's a war when they are enlisted they will have to go.

My ex DIL's brother is safe in the states. He's the one I told you about that's mother hadn't heard from him since this all started and he's in special services. Well it turns out he's in the states in school. He's a career Marine who is in his 30's but she was worried sick about him. Thanks for all the prays everyone.

Some might think I am crase for this but the Marine that did and all the others are one a small price for freedom and he was a grown man that volenteered for duty. Also if they did not want to lose thier only child they should have had more children. He is blaming Bush but it is easy enough to lose a child to a car crash of like my son something really stupid. He thought he was a superhero and jumped off his bunk bed and belly flopped on the floor and cracked his serturm. He came home yesterday and this morning during cartoons he was walking on the top of the couch. I am going to loose him to a motorcycle or something.

I am thankful for the Marines that are overthere. and right now is not a time to be selfish when so many others are benefitting from what we are doing. You may think that Sudam is only a threat to us but there are many Nations even France that will benefit from this.

My thoughts and prayers are with all the soldiers over there and their families here.

Aimee.....you're not being crase, you're just saying the truth. I can understand the father of that marine. He was upset and had to lash out at someone, why not Bush. I don't like to see our young men and women in harms way but on the other hand I don't want to see my little Grandchildren having to be scared to go to the zoo or the aquarium for fear that some crazy jerk is going to run a ship into the wharf where the aquarium sits and kill everyone. We can't shut out people just because they are this nationality or that, our country is made up of all nations. But we can stop a tirant before he can reach us and do the horrid things that they did to us in Manhatten on 9-11.

I voted for Bush for this very reason. I think he is cocky and arigant and we need that kind of stance to deal with the evil in this world today.

Bama.........I did see another lady on TV I think it was a sister saying she was proud of her brother and she was crying. I don't know if that's the one you are talking about. I know I would be upset if it were one of my sons too but I couldn't blame Bush. Blame Sadaam. If we back off he'd do the same as Bin Laden if he we gave him enough slack.

Hello ladies,
We all should be thankful we have president Bush in control and not Clinton. I stand beside Bush on his trek to help the Iraqy people ,we should all enjoy life with out threats. I feel he is essentially our "boss" and I feel he knows what is best.Could any of us do his job,or would we want to?I have two very dear family friends over there Chase Tinnel Naval communications officer and Ronny Clutter Special Forces Marine. Chase jioned to better his life so he could maybe work for nasa one day. Ronny jioned as a lifetime career and he is very happy to protect our nation. I hope to see these two come home safely but if not I know they were protecting human lives and not thinking of there own.I watch Tv twenty four seven its on while Im in bed and when Im out in the yard.It sounds like we are doing ok, there are always going to be casualties in war. We all wish there werent but we cant help that now.As for you ladies talking about the guy in the tractor, my daughter was in Washington when that was going on. She didnt get to see half of what she went to see because of him.LOL she didnt seem to mind though. She said there are alot of troops around town guarding things. She never got a glimps of the tractor guy. I was so worried the week she was there but she said "mom dont worry Im in the safest place to be right now"I guess it could have been worse she could have been over seas or something. Well ladies I guess all we can do is trust in the lord and pray for a speedy end to this whole thing."We all should be sewing up a storm in honor of all are protectors"

Now on to a lighter note. :bg: A friend sent this to me and i thought i would share. I hope this is the appropriate time and place for it. When I am at my lowest it is when I try to laugh the hardest.

Don't worry, I for one am not offended at all. We have a very weak prime minister. I have been so disappointed for a long time with the way our country is run. Many of our problems come from not being as we say "politically correct". This a saying that has been here for awhile and I am tired of it. Morels and rights and wrongs should be the backbone of our leaders. We have had a great leader in B.C., his name is Bill Vander Zaam. Stockwell Day would of been way better for our country as well, but his problem was he had morels and well for some reason that isn't "politically correct". Now you understand the quotation. I do chuckle and will do so until we have a proper leader in our country. I hope I haven't offended any fellow Canadians, but this is my opion and if I am right this is my constitutional right. Trudeau gave this to us and I detested him as well. I bet he is still laughing over how he could fool us dumb people. But how does the saying go, you can only fool people some of the times. My grandparents came to this country because they saw something beautiful in the leadership. We used to be respected and looked as a God fearing nation. Now its "lets party". No wonder our supposidly higher learning are caught drunk and driving. Sorry for this long speech, but I have wanted to say this to someone. You are free to disagree, since that is your constitutional right :bg:

I am sorry but I feel us not being in this war shows that our government is not a s weak as we thought it was. It took a lot of guts and strength to keep us out of being pushed into this unjust war.

Everyone has an opinion. I don't like Bush either but you know our men and women are over there fighting and I think no matter if it's correct or not, now is not the time to condemn anyone. Stand up for our men and women in the armed services and let them know we appriciate what they are putting on the line for us, (their lives) we're already there. Also if you don't like the way the government is run vote them out next election.

Don't get this little Cajun started talking about government policies. Most of it stinks. From the give away programs to the Social Security system it all stinks but not our men and women in the service of our country, they are best!!!!!!!

I've been reading a few other boards where they are getting a little heated about the politics of this war.

My only comment is that this is not a new war, it is only the continuation of something that should have been done 12 years ago. So, if we blame anyone, it should be that group of old men that run the United Nations, who, just in case anyone's is interested, just appointed the country of Libya (home of wheree terrorists originated) as the head of the UN's human relations committee.

I heard an interesting comment on the radio today. A local commentator said that if 9/11 had not happened, we would be caring less about what happens to those people in Iraq and the madman that is their ruler, because we would all be busy as we usually are with our own little personal worlds.

Me, I just spend my time practicing my Easter music and sewing when I'm not working. However, when I feel the depresssion and anxiety trying to move in, I take a trip to Hancock Fabrics or JoAnn's and that always cheers me up. I'm on my way right now. :bolt:

What do Col. Custer and Sadam Hussein have in common?????? They both said were in the heck did all the tomahawks come from.

I didn't mean to get a heated debate. All countries have thier ups and downs. There are great things in every country, state/providence, Town, city, and home. There are also bad things we just have to look at the whole picture and relize that we could be a lot worse no matter where we are.

I know on My 30th birthday to me the world was going to come to an end. Everyone forgot my birthday, I turned thirty, the cake I ordered the bakery lost the order, hubby got stuck out of town, the new medication I was given had an adverse reaction and caused nerve damage to my face resembling bells palsy. I stayed up all night felling like this was the worst thing in the world. then watching on the news the next morning I saw a plane hit the first tower and you know what my life was not that bad.

There is always something worse. Just look at the positves in life like the next sewing project that you do and the smile on the face you give it to. ( We never sew for our self do we) and if you do not have some one to sew for here is a suggestion.

I have 4 boys I never get to sew dresses. so I decided I would make some dresses and matching doll clothing. went out and got the cheap 18" dolls from Joannes used the 50% off coupon and took them to the battered women's shelter and to see the look on the little girls faces and the look on the mom's that someone would do something for her daughter brings joy. I also make matching short sets with t shirts with matching fabric for the sleeves for the boys.
The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, that’s the constitution.
We are all supporting the troops that are fighting overseas.
But supporting troops and government are too different things. The troops are sent by their government, they have no say or choice in it. So, GOD BLESS ALL TROOPS!

But I can not help thinking that there is something very wrong in this world – why is it right to kill people, FOR killing people?! Because, in the end, the people that get killed are not government in most cases, but ordinary people, who are suffering through it all from both sides!
What happened to the most beautiful wise saying: “THE PEN IS MIGHTIER THAN A SWORD”! Food for thought, maybe…. But, let’s keep sewing and it’s a great idea to do it for charity.

I grew up Army, moved around every three years to different postings as you do. I was never filled with the understanding, even from a child, that soldiers were people who killed - rather that soldiers were people who stood in the way so that you don't get killed.

:bg: my Dad was in the Catering Corps though - he couldn't kill a person but boy! when they were on manouvers the local sheep and rabbit population trembled!:bg:

Being able to voice our opinions is one of the great things about living in a free country. This is not a new war, it is only a continuation of the one Iraq started in 1991 when they tried to take Kuwait's oil fields. First of all, Saddam and his murdering band of generals or whatever they are jumped on a country that was unable to defend itself and the United Nations (with primarily the United States footing the bill) intervened and told Saddam Hussein to go home and get rid of his weapons so he couldn't cause more trouble in the Middle East. That has not happened so here we are again. Let me assure you that Americans were the last ones to think or want to believe that the kind of terrorism experienced here in Oklahoma City with 700 + people and a day care full of innocent children being killed in a federal building being bombed and the people of New York when the Twin Towers were taken down by planes being used as bombs, would ever happen in this country. Clearly, the people the US and Britain are now fighting are not about to stop now they have discovered they can do it, not only in the US but in almost any city in the world they choose to do so in. No one wants to see our troops killed or captured by these madmen but these guys are doing it without complaining because they see first hand the plight of millions of people that was and is getting worse by the day with Saddam Hussein killing and torturing at will or turning water off when and where he chose to send people to do it and depriving poeple of food day in and day out. That food for oil business that the UN was sponsoring was a big joke. France, Russia, China and lot of the other countries were trading guns, and the materials to make chemical weapons for that oil. There never has been a lot of food provided to those people, only enough to keep them alive from one day to the next. Words in this case wouldn't work in a million year. Books could be filled with documents signed by Saddam Hussein and nothing would change in that country as a result of all the signed documents except more starved, brutalized, terrified people.

Hip Hip Hooray for Patsy, People forget about what this evil regime has done. Not only did he kill his own people he tried to take away coastal land from Iran first and when that didn’t work he went after Kuwait. If he’s not stopped, and the only way he will be stopped is to do what is being done now, as bad as it may seem, he will keep doing it until it gets down to us having to worry about him lashing his terror on our American soil with these weapons. Who knows if this flu (Pneumonia) that’s going around in Asia and Canada and China is not a result of someone playing around with germ warfare. Can you imagine them doing something like that in a massive way. Sadaam is the one who could have done it if we don’t stop it now. The best part is we'd never know where it came from. Just like Aids. It wasn't here before now where did it really come from. Makes you wonder don't it? I know I do.

Aids came from Africa - it has been rife in primate, cat and other animal populations for years and has mutated to a human form. Aids incidence is phenomenal in Africa, sadly on many of the innocent children. As a UK blood donor I see that there are greater and greater restrictions on doning depending on which country you have visited - regardless of your sexual promiscuity.

Jan, I wasn't putting the aids crisis in any catagory I had a cousin who died of aids. He was a hemophilalic (spelling????) It just makes you wonder where some of this stuff is coming from when we didn't have it before. Sorry if anyone misunderstood what I meant. And you're right, the little children who are getting this stuff makes me sad.

Please don't get shocked, but I was told that Aids comes from Africa where the people must of had sex with animals. I am also told that people do get it from a certain life style, such as the gay population. The sad thing is innocent people have gotten it thru blood tranfusions, or their parents. Please correct me if I am wrong. I would only like to know the facts to this sad disease.

Primates are a source of food in many countries and that is probably how 'aids' was eventually contracted by humans.

I remember reading that there was evidence of aids as far back as the 1930's, maybe before, but it didn't have a name and scientists didn't know what it was. The symptoms were described in a medical journal, and those symptoms seem to be consistent with what we know as 'aids' today.
Take care,
Donna

it was also in the way they get immunisation. It is not 1 needle one person. It is a gun kind of thing with a single needle for how many persons???.i once watch a tv science program "découverte" for the french one.Explaining that it could have been in one stream blood but not active, trnasfer it to a weaker one and the disease devellop and so on....that is the explanation for the epidemic!I did too heard of a sailor in 1890's who did die with the same pathologie (from english boat).

Our men came back from Desert Storm with some sort of illness and they believe that it was because of chemical warfare. I don't know if it was ever proven if it was that but that's what I am talking about it could happen and we wouldn't relize where it started if natural or man made. That was the point I was trying to make. Maybe the Aids example I used wasn't the right one but you get the picture.

I know where you are coming from Susie, we have vets. here too with gulf war syndrome. Half of our difficulty is trying to work out how much was caused by OUR side in giving too many immunisations on top of each other which may overstrain the system - and who knows what exposure.:bluesad:

Aids itself is transmitted by bodily fluids through a puncture wound of some kind. Unprotected sex can produce the type of minor trauma through which it can be contracted. Also , as you say, from blood transfusions, shared needles and heterosexual contact as well as homosexual. It travels across the placenta hence babies born with aids - a shocking tragedy if ever there was one.

Thankfully not caught (as my ole Ma would say) from siting on a public toilet seat!:bolt:

I think we got a little bit off subject.

I served in Gulf war and the "syndrome" that they are reffering to is that when our governmet was sending us out of the states we got a series of shots for everything. some of these shots were good for over 10 years. I left the country every 6 weeks for ops and I got the series every six weeks. I am a lucky one the only thing that gets me is that I am now allergic to anything and am on really great allergy medicne.

I know that our guys are doing great and the honorable thing. I have a friend from Bagdad that is still not used to America's thought process. She weeps at the protesters cause she can not fathom anyone calling the president the names that they do. She actully will get in there face and we have to pull her back. Some of her family got out of Bagdadh in time. Others she is waiting daily on thier progress. She tells me that it is okat if they die cause it means that they are finally free. For the last 10 years she has been working her to buy her family freedom. She could tell you the horrors that would make you want to take up arms and attack him just for the monsterous things that man and his son have done. In my books that whole country was a concentration camp.

Aimee,
Thank you for sharing. Tuesday night there were five of us that got together and prayed for the soldiers. I hope our Americans neighbours know that there are many here praying for you and your loved ones. Our church prays ever Sunday for the men and women that are fighting.
