Does anyone go all out, ripping, tearing and spring cleaning.

If so, got any good cleaning hints or organizational tips for cleaning out closets, floors, cupboards, etc.

I don't use any of the miracle cleaners for these areas; good old javel and water does it. Not too much javel, just a little will do the job and desinfect at the same time.

 Gave up on spring housecleaning since I found this board. Every so often I rearrange the dust, hope the rain cleans the windows and ALWAYS keep the closet doors closed.:bg:

Yup,

I've been ripping, tearing and throwing away!!! Cleaning a little too. My goal is to "de-clutter"!!!!

I started upstairs and did my daughter's room last week....I was inspired cause it looked great after I gave away a load of clothes and some old toys to the good-will store.

Yesterday I was really on a tear....
I went to Walmart, and while there, became inspired (or manic?) again. I bought some new bath stuff, and re-did the kids bathroom.....complete with a decorative new curtain rod, which I put up, and a new valance made from a coordinating turkish bath towel (hard to explain, but really looks great).

Also while at Walmart, bought a WHOLE BOLT of decorator fabric, 9.5 yrds THAT IS PERFECT for the new kitchen curtains I have been wanting. I need to hide it from my husband till I sew them!
Hey, the whole bolt was less than $20.00....what a steal.

So that's what I've been doing, maybe this will temporarily keep my mind off all the bad stuff in the world.

Dede, Joanne is the "crazy lady" of the site.

She is also French, which I make fun of all the time. You girls use the old standbys, no new cleaners, no timesaving techniques.

I have mentioned this before and Jo makes fun of me, but www.flylady.net is not bad for getting your head in the right place at times. I don't subscribe to the whole theory, but I do have some things I adhere to. Sometimes, no, most times I have too much on my plate so I have to organize a little.

Has anyone else tried this site. If so, what happened?

Do I do spring cleaning? Only when the dust bunnies start to attack:bg:
When I do have to start cleaning I try to save steps and do one room at a time. I have all my cleaning supplies, vacuum, trash bag and start high and work down and I work furthest from the door and by the time I'm done my pile is at the door already to go out to where I intend to put it, trash, thrift shop or just put away my supplies.

Mary I use one of those magic rag's , on all my window's mirrow's, stove, Frig. I'm hooked on them, I clean my car with one to.

I got my mom hooked on them to, and they must be good... if I could convert her ... LOL

If I adhered to everything Flylady suggests, I wouldn't have time to work ... and I live in a 1 bedroom apartment. I don't think anybody does what she suggests on a weekly basis. I guess we all have our standards as to what clean is. I consider my place above-average clean and it doesn't seem to take much effort ... except for the window thing. Thank God I only have 2.

I use Sudsy when I spring clean as it cuts through all the grime with our wood furnace. I try to do one room at a time when I have the time and energy. I did do the kitchen and eating area over spring break. I like to do a room at a time and clean it out thoroughly. I get rid of clutter, old items of no use, junk, etc. It feels good to get it done.

Dave, I wouldn't talk about your mom's basement. Her sewing room looks wonderful. And you should see the dust bunnies in mine plus the wood dust, and the recycling. Our basement gets done last and most often it gets forgotten except for the mudroom/vet supply room which I do quite frequently. Besides, if I clean up the basement, there wouldn't be anything left for the cats to play with. :bg:

And before Dave can reply, what I clean out from upstairs does not go downstairs. That is a pact DH (another Dave) and I have. It goes out to the dump. :bluesmile

It is amazing how much we have gotten rid of over the years. I gave a ton away, took some up to my little house, some to the children for their homes and the rest to the dump.

Must run and get some supper on. We have a friend coming over for supper. He lives 409 km from his wife while he takes teacher training and we know the feeling when we are apart for the week. We did the 900+ km thing for 1 1/2 years and it was horrid.

Talk to you later.

For about how long do you think you scared him off for? With our son it might be for a very short period of time so he can think of something new to hassle us about.
It is snowing today and I have to travel back to school after lunch. I am hoping we won't get much more snow this year. Am packed and ready to take it out to the vehicle.
Hope everyone has a great week.

Well I am actually more concerned about her sewing room. I mean, we were looking for her rotary cutters and Dad found them? What's with that? The editor of a major sewing site can't find her cutters?

Did you notice the ironing board? Maybe we should take a photo of it? That BIG OLE BLACK TRIANGLE burnt through the top of it. geez... nothing is safe in there...

I am new herebut thought this sounded like a warm friendly place. I am probably the only one that enjoys a good bout of cleaning. It keeps me sane when even when my crafts cannot.

I have checked out flylady and she does have huge lists of stuff to do. I admire the dedication, but even that is beyond me. I love to make everything shine and sparkle, but we need to live life to the fullest.

God bless us all!!

My theory is this " A clean house is a sure sign of insanity" I bet you didn't know that was true. ROFL And now with that comment, I'm the sanest person I know. Does that tell you something about how I Spring Clean. LOL Besides we don't have spring in Louisiana. We have Winter and Summer and that's it.

Dave and Sue,

Your Mother is going to get you. I'm sure she has some very interesting (blackmail) pictures of you two she'd like to share with the rest of us hidden somewhere. Get'em out Mary!!!!

I must truly be insane then:bg:

Last night I found that if you have soap scum on glass shower walls you can use dishwasher detergent to get it off and then use vinegar to remove mineral deposits.

Hi and welcome to Sew Whats New. :bluesmile

We are a warm, friendly bunch. My kids love to get on these boards and tell huge untrue stories about me from time to time.

Flylady is good, but like I say, she gives me the outline of what I need to do. I can't follow it closely, but she sure has the organizational skills to put it altogether coherently.
