Here in Halifax is a company called Unique Patterns. They have grown to the point now where they are selling all over the world practically.

A year or so ago, they invested in some sort of scanner. You had your body scanned and they would create patterns for you from the measurements the scanner recorded. Apparently they went all thru the States with this scanner and had a multitude of problems. People had been waiting months and months for their patterns.

Has anyone heard how this problem was solved? They used to advertise in the leading sewing magazines, but I haven't seen anything lately. I wonder what happened? It was good to see a local company rise to the "big time."

Has the problem been solved? As recently as a few weeks ago people were still griping about totally unsatisfactory results and the company telling them they had to take measurements by hand to correct the glaring errors. Many dissatisfied customers were discussing law suits, Better Business Bureau complaints, etc.

Wow, sounds like bad news doesn't it.

Have you noticed though, once one person complains about a specific company, everyone jumps on the bandwagon and gives their two cents worth.

What is it they say about bad news travelling fast, good news travels slow.

I wonder if the company has began to reimburse people or what their solution will be. It sounds like an awful mess to me. Has anyone else here been scanned for the Unique patterns?

I was scanned on December 7, 2002. I did have a bit of a wait to get get my initial patterns (dress and jacket). I have the jacket and the lining partially sewn together hanging here in my sewing room. My measurements that came with the first pattern (the jacket) were fairly accurat. However, when I cut the front of the jacket and marked the bust darts, it should have rung a bell in my head about how low they were. I went ahead and stitched the bust darts, the shoulder seams, etc. and when I put it on for the first rough fitting, the bust darts were almost at my waist. I know all of my body parts have gone south somewhat over the years, but hey, not that far south! LOL

Anyway, I did the old "frog stitch" and moved the darts up about 4 inches and so far, the jacket looks pretty good. I hope the dress looks as good when I get to the preliminary first fitting stage. If the jacket and dress are a good fit, I plan on ordering a couple more patterns.

I know there has been a lot of negative posting done on some of the other boards regarding Unique but hey no one promised it would be perfect and no one held a gun to my head and made me invest the 100 bucks. I've probably wasted a heck of a lot more than that over the years on patterns that I was never able to get the fit just right with them and threw the garment in the trash. If this will work for me with just a few minor tweaks here and there, I'm all for it.

Apparently the pattern software is working for a lot of gals but I have neither the time nor patience to sit in front of a computer fiddling with a lot of measurements, etc. and then scotch taping a cazillion sheets of printer paper together to get a pattern. I'll pay to let someone else do that for me. I'd reather spend my time quilting and then just cut out and sew a drafted pattern when I get it in the mail. LOL

Well, the main thing is you got what you paid for. I know that was a concern with a lot of women.

I would say the company has to have a long hard look at their business plan and learn from their mistakes. It's no picnic out there, that's for sure.
