I just received my ASG news letter and Janome has come out with a new machine in honor of the ASG 25th anniversary. It is a duplicate of the Jem Gold, but is labeled as the Jem Silver. It is $288 with carrying case and covered with lots of ASG logos. For anyone thinking of buying one of the light-weight (12 pounds) portable machines this one is worth the money. I have the original Janome/NewHome Jem and I travel everywhere with it - including ASG meetings. I haven't checked yet to see if it is featured on the Janome website, but according to the ASG newsletter it should be, or will be available at Janome dealers. These little machines are awesome, for what they are designed for. Anyway, just thought I'd pass this along to any machine addicts out there.

My now 13 yr boy started on this machine now he has purchased a White with more features and has passed his Jem to his 7 and 5 yr old brothers. they love it. Th efive year old made a budda outfit for his baby doll his design he stitched it so it would not come apart. They make thier own PJ bottoms and thier summer shorts out of the brightest and bold est fabric they can find. It is like a contest who can get the loadest fabric. Dad is also in on this but I sew his pants. He tried once and it came out with one leg.
The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

Aimee, that is so great. Your boys might end up designers, I think that's wonderful!

My oldest started cause he did not like the summer clothes they have and some times I get to busy to knock out yet another pair of shorts. He is a stick and likes longer in the leg shorts. and tank tops that fit in the chest never meet let alone go to the top of his butt like he like. The only bad thing that I can think of is that he hids his machine when his friends come over. I wish he could be proud of his creations. I hope it will come soon. The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

Yeah, I know the feeling about him hiding the machine, but his buddies wouldn't know how to react. I worked with a young guy that was the most talented you could ever imagine. He would be a super inspiration to your son. I think your sons are great to sew. MaryW

A friend of mine teachers textiles at school, age 13 boys and girls. They have all enjoyed designing, ambroidering and making their own cushions, wallhangings etc. The work is fantastic and much of this is due to the inspiration of my friend. It is great to see all those lads who can be so disruptive in other lessons settling quietly for some theraputic needlework! s they all do it, there is no shame or embarressment. Fab! Lets hope your lads keep going for it - it was my dad who taught me to love needlework, he was always sewing.
love and kisses, Jan
