We had a small earthquake here at 3:59 am. I woke up when I felt a small rumble and heard our french doors and roof vibrate. I asked hubby "what was that?". He said "what was what?". I described it and he said "probably thunder".
He left for work and called me at 5:00 am and said he heard on the radio it was a small earthquake.
It was weird. :nervous: We're not used to that in this state.

Bama --
I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and know what an earthquake feels like. But 20 years ago we moved to upstate New York where we get snow instead of earthquakes. One morning -- very early -- I woke up to the strangest feeling. I thought I was dreaming about an earthquake but later when I went to work at the newspaper the wire services reported there was a quake that morning. It's a strange feeling when even the earth is no longer stable.

I had never experienced an earthquake til DH and I went to San Diego in 1972. We were on the 14th floor of the Hotel we were in. I woke up to the bed shaking. I jabbed DH in the ribs and told him to stop shaking. All I got from him was a snort. I opened my eyes and the chandilier was swaying. What an eerie feeling that was. I think I got dressed in record time that morning. It really was a scary feeling and I pray I never experience it again.

Lori,

I've lived in Southern California for the past twenty years. My first earthquake was erie. Even though I've experienced them many times and some of them did damage you never get fully used to them. You probably will have a couple more before the day or week is over. They usually come in groups so don't be alarmed if you feel movement again.

Northern England had a teeny weeny little quake last year. Three roof tiles and a chimney fell down - you'd think it was a holocaust the fuss the press made! I could sneeze louder:bg: I remember when I was a kid I went to the Science Museum in London and they had set up a lift to simulate what it was like to be in an earthquake. Well, the thing couldn't have been working 'cos all we heard were occasional groaning noises and machinery whirring and the doors opened again. Unless that really was representative of English Earthquakes. So civilized here don't you know?

I heard this afternoon it was a 4.9
A man on the news said it was a small one, but spread out over a large area, so we just might get more tremors. It was the talk of the whole town today.:bg:

We get them frequently here in NZ I dont think that you ever get used to them. I often find myself thinking is this going to be the BIG one:shock:
So far we haven't had to dive for cover but it has been close a couple of times.
I think I would hate to be in the city in a big one - all that glass !
Anyway I must go get some sewing done instead of cruising on the 'puter

Well, guess that hasn't happened here in Oklahoma City yet. Probably be next though after a bombing and the strongest tornado ever recorded on planet earth! As one of my nephew's said "An earthquake is God shaking the world trying to get everyone's attention."

When I was younger I lived in the town of Gilroy that is about 2 miles from the san Andreous Fault line. we had more earthquake drills then fire drills. they were a monthly accourance.

One time a big one hit while we were at PE you could see the cement roll like a wave toward us. it was like ridding surf wave. Some ran other idiots like me decided to rid it out. Got a concusion and a broken arm. it was a 6.9. class mates got the two of us shirts that read. I survived the 6.9 Gilroy eathquake.

Now I have moved 4 miles north of Gilroy and have not had a quake in 8 years. I hope I remeber what to do in an emergency.
The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

Aimee, I am so glad to hear that somebody else experienced and saw the cement roll like a wave! It happened to me years ago (about 30!) in Australia, in Sydney, where they used to say we don’t have earthquakes, because the continent is very old. Now they know they were wrong, after the big one in Newcastle a few years ago. The only thing that woke me up that night, was the tinkling of the glasses in the cupboards! But when I looked out the window, I saw cement rolling like a wave along the road, it was weird! Nobody noticed much or made any fuss about it, so when I tried to tell anyone what I have seen, I don’t think they ever believed me! :nervous: :whacky:

I have never seen concrete rolling, but I did see my floor 'moving', and felt as if I were riding a wave. It was enough to cause me panic, but my husband was sitting in the same room and didn't notice a thing! We were on the fourth floor of a six-floor building, in Saint John, NB(I was facing east, and he was facing south...if that makes a difference???). After I brought it to his attention, the only thing that he noticed was that the water in the aquarium was sloshing around. I asked the neighbours if they had noticed anything, and they hadn't!
I thought I was nuts, but later, on the news, it was announced that there had been an earthquake...centred in Quebec. That was about 15 years ago.
Take care,
Donna

Bama,
My daily paper had a little article about the quake.. said 4.9 and that it could be felt in our N C Mountains, but not here in the piedmont area of the state.. I did not feel this one.. Last one I felt was about 35 or so years ago when Charleston, SC had a small one and most people here in town felt nothing.. Maybe I felt it because of where I was... In the bathroom, on the throne, so to speak... I'm glad I have never been in a real one.. (strong, that is) .. I like solid ground..:bg: :bg:

Aimee My sister lived in Gilroy a few years back. She was there for the earthquake you are talking about. Her name is Kathy White and her girls are LIsa, Stacy and Bridget and she has a son named Carl. Small world. LOL

and when you say small world you mean it with that town. When we got moved there we had a general store with penny candy and bartering system. every one knew every one. You could ride your horse or motorcycle to school. Hearing me reminice some think I am a lot older then I am. I am 30 but our town was stuck in the past til the outlet malls came to town.
The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!
