We had that discussion at WW when I first joined them. They cannot explain why but: take 3 of those Hershey's kisses, if you eat them one per day it's something like 1 point each but if you have them all at the same time it's 4 points. Looks like all that sugar and fat in one sitting is more damageable than making the pleasure last longer.

Absolutely, Bren! I never diet, I just watch what I eat. And you know what, all doctors say you need some exercise daily – too true, even walking (briskly, not strolling!) for 30 minutes a day will do the trick! As I always sit at my computers (one at work and one at home) I try to do something vigorous ALMOST every day, like rake the leaves in the garden or clean 3 big windows a day! It all helps, as they say: use it or loose it… Oh boy, all this talk about muscles makes me tired… :whacky: :nervous:

I'm just the opposite, when I sew or use the computer, I don't eat! Get to engrosed in my work and forget until late in the evening! Generally I only eat once a day, I know, that's not healthy but then that's just me. Chalk it up o CRS!

I have just heard that one of the best ways to loose weight is fasting, anybody tried that?
I normally eat only during the day when I am at the office, and skip dinner. My DH packs my lunch - a sandwich (multigrain bread) with lean ham or turkey with lots of greens; some fruit and vegs, so after ‘grazing’ all day I don’t feel hungry at night (for food that is!). :bluewink:

A day or two of fasting won't hurt you, but anything extended is the worse way to try to loose weight. The body sort of goes into a shut down mode as far as using up it's stores of fat and sugar because it doesn't know when it will get more food to eat! The best way is to eat sensibly and to cut down on portion size and the amount of fat, sugar, and processed foods. Easier said than done! Ask me I know.:bg:

You are right, Sewingrandma, you need to watch everything you put into your mouth these days, can’t trust many things you read, either. We have this great kafoofle here at the moment, discredited drug maker Pan Pharmaceuticals (vitamin pills, health supplements, drugs etc), they were so bad, they had staff in their products that was illegal and they made drugs for many companies. So they are recalling thousands of products right now.
And yes, the size of the portion does matter. They say it’s better to eat a few small meals a day, rather than 2 or 3 huge ones. Eating small meals shrinks your stomach (eventually) and you feel satisfied after only a small amount of food.

If it goes passed the lips, it's on the hips..
I have fasted for up to 3 days (not for weight reasons but to concentrate the mind in prayer). You don't lose weight for this length of time because, as previously stated, your body goes into starvation mode and your metabolic rate slows way down. This means when you start eating again go slow as it takes time for your BMI to catch up and it can pile on. If you are going to do this is is a good idea to give up tea and coffee a few days before or you will really get headaches. ( don't drink tea and coffee when fasting it gives you the willies!)
I have found that this kind of fasting does break bad eating habits and you can reestablish better habits when you start eating again.
The wierest thing was when I gave up tea and coffe for 40 days. It was really hard to find a hot drink I liked but BOY! was I mellow at the end by the time the caffeine had worked out of the system!

Want to talk about bad weight gain. After 9/11 they told me that I would be activated in May of this year and I needed to lose 45 lbs by then. I swear I tried. they activated me in April. they put me in charge of The PT. Goal to loose that 45 lbs. Running in the moring 7 miles. obstical course and general PT in the evening and all day on Saturday. only eating Military meals on station. clothes feel looser but I gained another 21 lbs. Doc says I can get Gastrutic bypass in 20 lbs. they are now testing my thyroid and I am changing my PT to only cardio. I am firm on top bu there is a large fat mass that i cant get rid of. Let you know how the tests turn out.

Well now hmmmm lol.I just love choccies to bits, but like the old saying! past the lips over the gums, look out stomach here it comes lol.Weight problems yes i do have a struggle also.Pasta, bread, cheese and potatoes are all starch foods, not to mention munchies therefore ahem, they all fattening!!!So ive talked my self into not eating a full size meal, cutting down on the portions i eat is helping, and walking each day does help.Sometimes even good to turn on the radio in your own space and just dance to the music.
It seems that the couch potatoe- has been replaced with the puter potatoe eh lol.
After dinner my hubby and I go for a walk, ive noticed that if i don't, my dinner just sits there like a lump on a logg ,hard to digest if i sit around too much.Last fall I bought my self a bike and go riding around the neighbor hood on it now. That helps also.
If at first you don't suceed, try-try again!

We have found the reason for my weight gain.

Yet another ovarian cycst.

Bet you did not know that they can cause you to gain weight.
I have had a history of these darn things and this is the first time I have gained weight. it tricks your body into thinking it needs the weight to feed a pregnancy. Well had it removed. this time it was easier no evasive surgery . walked out 3 hours later. Miricles of medical science

Glad the tests showed up something - better out than in as they say. A friend of mine had an ovarian cyst removed and she said it was like a pregnancy so maybe this will see an end to it for you. Will they still have you on cardio exercises or do you have to recoup a bit first?

The doc and I have discussed it but even on a second consult we have decided to wait for another 10 years unless I get too many more. many meaning more then 3 in the next three years. Now they can take care of the problem like a D&C. out patient care.

I attended a conference on eating disorders a few years back and the tutor ( an ex anorexic) said that thre was no such thing as good or bad food, there is only food. Some has more nutrients than others - but our problem is the we abuse food. I have never beeen anywhere where so much of the discussion ranged around our lunch boxes!

I love cheese, cooked. Don't ask me to put a chunk of cold cheese in my mouth. It is the worse feeling stuff I've ever felt. Same with chicken breast vs thigh or leg. Its grainy feeling and I can't stand it. DH thinks there is something wrong with me:bg:

Bama don't feel bad. I see my Mother only once or maybe twice a year and the only thing she seems to be able to focus on as soon as she sees me is how fat I am. Actually, I'm not really obese or anything although I do have a few extra pounds that I could easily do without. My husband always laughs. He thinks it's really funny when she says those things to me. The last time it was the fact that she thought I had had breast implants. That really tickled dh's funny bone. I do the same thing you did, I just let her think whatever she wants to about how big I am.

That sounds fimiliar Patsy, but not with my side of the family. They rarely say anything about my weight. My hubby's mother will though. And the strange thing about it is I'm the thinnest of all her DILs. I've never heard her say anything to them about how much they weigh. But she has talked about it when they leave.:nervous:
The older I get, the harder it's getting to control my weight. I'm not obese, but at 5'3" and 150 pounds, I feel like it's getting out of control.:bluesad:

I just got pictures developed from our trip to the beach. My son had already commented that I wear granny swimsuits. I asked him if he'd rather I squeezed into a bikini. He said no.

My hubby saw the pictures and said "look at grandma"
I calmly said, "You know, I never say anything about how other people look, because I realize I'm no beauty myself."
Made him feel about an inch tall.

It's those throw away remarks that hurt isn't it? If only we recognised how fragile we can be, we would watch what we say to other people. One night my husband snuggled up in bed and caled me his cuddly cane toad. He meant it as a compliment ((((((! )))))) but boy did it hurt. I'm happier with myself now than I was then so it wouldn't hurt the same but = ouch.

I think my husband has had a few hurtful comments thrown at him. People think they are being funny, but it definitely is not funny for the people the remark is aimed at.

I fully agree with you; there is nothing funny about making comments on people's appearance. I gained 40+ pounds at one point and the people I taught were the closest to me were the first ones to put their 2 cents in. I don't think they realized I wasn't the only one putting on the pounds. I will not say anything to them as I refuse to fall into that category of people who get some kind of satisfaction in pointing out other people's flaws. Not worth it. I have now lost 25 of pounds and nobody paid comments on it. Isn't that funny ...

Chocolate is not a problem for me as it gives me such a killer migraine that I don't dare touch it. Unfortunately, I love crunchy, salty foods like chips.

One of the best exercise I get is playing with my 2 dogs, Sebastian (a lab) and his sister, Ginger (mostly German Shepherd mix). Throwing the ball and running in the yard keeps me moving. Also, gardening can be quite a workout, what with the weeding and constant watering required to keep the plants alive in this 90 degree weather! And, sweating takes off a few pounds too...
