:coffee: Hi I am new here, first day. I am a novice sewer. I took sewing lessons in school oh so many hundreds of years ago. My husband bought me a sewing machine for mothers day, and with it i want to make jumpers and flares for my 6 yr old who is a plus size. It is just about impossible to buy pants for her off the rack. I am so happy to see Simplicity, etc has plus size patterns.

When i was pregnant i made my self a maternity top on a machine as old as me (it went forward and backward only), I borrowed a machine to make the button holes.... So this little basic one hubby bought me is a huge treat. So thats me in a nutshell. ..Susan

Welcome Susan!

Congratulations on your machine for Mother's Day. You'll find that everyone here is so helpful! I teach kids sewing through 4_H and when mothers ask questions about learning I refer them to this site. This is the best sewing encyclopedia I can think of!

You'll find sewing for your child easier than trying to find things to fit. I had a very tall and thin child. I never could find pants long enough or if I did they wouldn't stay up, so sewing was a necessity! Keep in mind that patterns run larger in kids sizes than in ready to wear. Unlike women's size patterns which are a little smaller than ready to wear.

Happy Sewing!
Lori

Welcome!

I am new here also. It has been very helpful no matter how silly my questions are, I never feel stupid for asking!

Hi and Welcome, SewinSue! :bg: You'll love it here!

I am a newbie too and will always be. The knowledge these ladies have, on this site, is just wonderful and it will take me forever to learn just a bit of it, so, I am here for the long haul… and loving it! I always wanted to sew, but did not know how to; this is the first time I feel I have ‘mentoring’ and now I am finishing what I start and feeling very proud of it. Of course, in case I learn all about sewing, there is always the quilting to learn… :bluewink:
