My old faithful Jones/Brother is chewing it's way through the last of the bobbins that came with it. As a special treat I bought it some new bobbins from Woolworths ( all purpose store) and started my spring outfit. Nice light cream linen suit - followed the directions on sewing a straight skirt ( thanks Julie - most helpful as I had the pattern but no instructions). Every time I stopped sewing the bottom thread snapped. I rethreaded, I checked my tension, I replaced the bobbins, and the thread had come off the spool and wound itself around the spindle. Some hours later I had a brainwave and yes, the bobbins were slightly too small for the case allowing the thread to come loose. grrrrrr. replace old bobbins and Shazzam! I'm back in business. Anyone else have this kind of problem ?

Magot,
Bobbins are unique for the machine they are made for.. You cannot buy a generic..(one size does NOT fit all) .. I keep one in my purse along with my retractable tape measure. Or I did til I bought enough bobbins to suit me..The ones to fit my Fwt portable are unique enough that I recognize them on site, and I have a gracious plenty of those , also.. Sometimes , we are forced to go to the dealer for parts, etc..

Jan, another thing I might mention is that some people find that its better to use metal bobbins in their older machines if that's what they were originally. Once you find the size, try to buy metal instead of plastic if you're still having problems.

Hi Jan,

Do you have a John Lewis store near you? They sell bobbins for Jones/Brother :)

Lol! Good luck. They're quite cheap, and if they've got none in stock they should be able to order some for you.
