How do you bind off in pat? My knitted piece is K1 P1 K1 etc.

I did find the direction on About.com
http://knitting.about.com/library/nlearnbo.htm It's the last paragraph that says....... Sometimes a pattern will tell you to "BO in pattern". I tried it, and it works great! Thank you for your help.
