Hi! I just found this forum and love it. I'm Lois, a sahm to my dd Emily. I have been sewing for about 6 years now. I've always had an interest in sewing since I was a teenager. My Grandmother and Great Grandmother did a lot of sewing, quilting, and embroiderery but my mother would have none of it. As a result I never had the opportunity to learn. I finally enrolled in several sewing classes and was hooked! I mostly make things for my dd with an occasional home dec item. I haven't tried quilting yet but I'm taking a class in beginning quilting in July. I can hardly wait!

Okay, who's next? :bg:

I am a working wife and mom [32-40 hrs per week]. I have three kids 17, 16, and 6... Daughter, step son and daughter... (mine, his and ours)
I sewed in highschool, and then after first dd was born, I attended a beginner sewing class. (Mainly because 1st hubby didn't want me out of the house, and wouldn't buy me any clothes) I have sewn on and off ever since. I got a basic Brother sewing machine for Mothers day, and have been going with both engines ever since. I Have just to hem and attach buttons to two Sun dresses for youngest. My oldest is cutting out her boxers now, and I discreetly left the room due to language... lol...

I'm Jan, happy wife to Tony ( 25 next year!) Mum to Katie (19) and Rosie(16) and fostered at one time a lad with ADHD (Pete 15). I learned to dressmake at school, my Dad taught me how to knit ( he did socks) and to love needlework. I love to make things - I can't sit down of an evening without someting in my hands. Knitting is easy cause I just program my hands and when I go to bed - o look - 3 inches! I make clothes, curtains, cushions. lace, quilts, anything knitted, I paint ( watercolours), draw, and work at a local school ( 9-13 years) as learning support help the less able or downright naughty kids.
I run the kids work at our local church and have published to books on this. When asked " what do you want for Christmas" my reply is often " 2 inches on my legs"

Gee, Magot, apart from everything else, you never mentioned that you are also a brilliant scientist! I don’t know, people are too modest sometimes…. :bg:
You are right about the 2” though, at my 5’6” I always wanted to be taller, so I am still ‘teetering’ on my high heels!!! :whacky:

I'm Dede, mother to everybody at work and sister to everybody outside of work. I've been sewing for a few years and quilting for about 2. Really enjoy it. Also crosstitch and knit but not as often.

Miss Minx, I would need 8" heels to reach you with your shoes on. Too dangerous so I'll stick to my flats.

I'm Dorothy, a freelance writer and empty nester.
I make all my own clothes and some for friends and family. I also enjoy some simple home dec sewing and hand work such as needlepoint and cross stitch.
I learned to knit from a fourth grade teacher and sew in home ec and everything else grew out of that. For the most part I taught myself and I still try to incorporate lots of new techniques in my sewing.

I'm Brockie, married 33 years, 3 children, 4 grandchildren. Taught to sew by my Dad, have been sewing since I was 7. Make clothing for the kids, grands, myself and DH, home deco and crafty items. Haven't tried quilting yet, but you should see the stack of books I have on it:bg: I plan on taking lessons soon once I start working days again. My Mom taught me to knit and have made many sweaters and afghans. I'm a self taught crocheter and have made many sweaters, afghans, toys, etc. For a while crocheting was my second job. Income from it was better than my regular job! I recently went to work full time at a correctional facility after working 20 years as a nurse in a nursing home. Loved working with the elderly but all the rules and regulations that the government have imposed on them made it impossible to do my job as a nurse and turned me into a paper pusher.:bluesad:
Playfish, this was a great idea to have us introduce ourselves.

I'm Paula. I'm 50 years old and have been married for 1 month - alone for tons of years prior and married 8 years prior to that. I have no children, but my husband has a 20 year old daughter and a 30 year old son - with grandbabies for us!

I have been teaching for 25 years - the first 10 were in special education classrooms and the last 15 in third grade; and I still love it even tho there have been many, many changes over the years. I do some staff development classes but much prefer teaching children.

I sew mostly for the craft fairs I attend, neckties, baby blankets, curling iron covers, book covers, dog clean up containers, coolie ties, etc. and try to add a new item or so each year. I used to sew for myself and the fabric store I worked in but since I have gained too much weight I quit sewing for myself. too depressing. (But my husband and I have started a regular walking routine, so maybe some excess pounds will come off.) I do cross stitch, hand embroidery, crochet and almost any other craft that comes around.

We love camping, metal detecting and traveling. I hope to get him interested in golf - or find him a fishing buddy so I can golf! We are in the process of getting two houses ready to sell so we can buy one together. That is a real challenge!

I'm Lori. I'm 37 yo, happily married with 2 kids, a 14 yo son and an 11 yo daughter. We also have 2 dogs, 3 cats (with 8 kittens!), and 2 miniature goats.
I've loved sewing for more years than I can remember now and took up quilting when my youngest was a baby.
I love starting new quilting projects and trying new patterns and techniques, but don't always finish all of them. :nervous: I plan to, really. :bg:

Hi

I also am a Lori I'm 42 years old, have been married for 20+ years and have 2 kids.. Boy 17, Girl 13. I have been sewing since I was six. Thats when my parents bought me a toy singer machine and I began making doll clothes. Have been sewing since. I have done not only clothing but a lot of home decorative work. I went back to school when my kids were small and paid for my tuition making sewing curtains, drapes and pillows for clients. I now am a financial analyst and teach kids to sew through 4-H in my spare time. (Its gotten so popular I may have to retire from 4-H as 8 to 12 classes a month are burning me out.). I started quilting a couple years ago. My 4-H kids needed to raise money for extra machines so we decided to make a quilt to raffle. Needless to say I loved it so much that I now produce a quilt a month. My house is now messier cause I'd rather quilt than anything else! Luckily my DH seems to understand my new found disease!

Hello nice to have you with us. I'm Patsy. I'm 61 years old, married to the same man twice (14 years -- divorced 20 years -- married 9 years). My screen name is derived from my job as a legal assistant secretary for the past 30 or so years. I live in a suburb of Oklahoma City and I'm employed full time in the Oklahoma Attorney General's office as a legal secretary. I plan to retire next year and spend the rest of my days sewing and quilting. I've been sewing since the age of 15 when I took my first year of home ec in high school. I currently have 3 sewing machines and a serger. However, my favorite past time is quilting, when I have time. I sing in my church choir, belong to the Church quilt guild (Sonshire Quilters), participate in the Women's Ministry in our church, keep house (DH recently fired me as the head housekeeper and hired a real one). I have 8 sisters, five brothers and a multitude of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. My sisters and nieces are constantly whining for me to make them one thing or the other. I spent a lot of my single years crocheting afaghans for my nieces and nephews. Occasionally I find time to sew something for myself. Most of the time my sewing room looks like a bomb is either getting ready to go off or has gone off. I also enjoy cross-stitching, embroidery and crocheting. LOL

My name is Shelly. I'm wife to Curtis (17 years), mom to Christina (10) and the sub par human caretaker for Mickey, a tuxedo cat and Lovebug, a Manx/Calico mix with a major attitude-much like her owner! I have been in journalism (radio and print) for 13 years, most recent gig was as a magazine editor. I live in the north Dallas suburb of Carrollton, Texas where I go to church as much as I can, water my grass so I can gripe about cutting it and drive all over Dallas and Fort Worth in search of the best fabric deals. Last week I was elected to the board of the D/FW area sewing guild. (This is better than being elected mayor of Dallas in my opinion). Sewing is my one true addiction. My second is collecting books about sewing-especially the older ones from the 1930s, 40s and 50s. They're a hoot!

I'm Billie, happily married and have a daughter, who is soon to be in college. I have too many hobbies, but love to sew. I've sewn off and on for about 30+ years. I haven't done much lately, but looking forward to orgainizing my sewing room and getting busy! I work in an afterschool program with the school district. I usually do small hand sewing projects with the children, which they look forward to. We have also done quilting. I have boys and girls sewing and the other teachers I work with are amazed at the interest. :bluesmile

My other interest is cooking, but I need to put that on the back burner, because my cooking isn't necessarily low-fat!

Hi, I'm Lee Anne

I'm 40 old, married to a great hubby (Mike -- who knows more about fabric than I do!) since 1986, have 3 wonderful kids Jeff Mitch and Emily.

I was born in Montreal, moved to Southern California in the early 90's then back to Toronto a couple of years ago to be closer to my growing extended family.

I started my career as a computer analyst then quit to stay home tith the kids about 13 years ago. Now I'm a WAHM operating a little business selling fabric.

I started sewing about 20 years ago making home decor for my first apartment. When the kids came along, I began garment sewing and made hundreds of kids outfits over the years. I have a great sewing room, an enormous stash, and every sewing toy I could want. Unfortunately my little business and the activity calendar for 3 kids has me so busy I no longer have time to sew! Hubby bought me a wonderful embroidery machine for xmas and I haven't had time to even open the box.

My dream is to be a fabric tycoon!

Hey Playfish this is a great idea.

I'm Susie, I'm a 51 yr old Mother of 3 sons who are all grown, Grandmother of 5, ages 12,11,10,9,and 9 (three girls and two boys). I will be married to the same man 34 years this August. I love to swim, dance, cook, listen to music, and sew. My children and grandchildren are my whole world. I'm very involved in their lives as much as I can.

I love sewing everything from quilts to home dec to clothing construction to monograming towels with my embroidery machine. I have three sewing machines. A Jamome 9000, a Euro Pro denim and silk, and a Euro Pro serger. I've been sewing on a machine since I was 14 when I took up home ec but I use to knit and embroidery by hand when I was younger than that. Lately whenever I sew a blouse for myself either my Daughter in Law takes it or my sister swipes it so I haven't made anything for myself to keep in a while. LOL

Anyone remember those kits you use to be able to buy for making pot holders? They came with loops and a rack to weave the loops on. I did those when I was around 6 ot 7.

By the way Jan and Minx, I'm only 5'0 feet. I'm jealous. Boo Hoo LOL

Hey yall! Little bit of the south for ya! I'm a mother of three, ages 4(g), 6(b) and 12(b). I had stayed at home for 10 yrs and then decided I needed to work for my own sanity, but entered into disfunction everywhere I worked for 2 yrs, so I came back home, hoping sanity will hold out 2 more yrs! That's when my youngest will start school!
I have been sewing since I can remember, I have tried a little of everything, but a master at nothing! I really enjoy heirloom sewing, smocking and machine embroidery.
Since I'm home again, trying to make extra income with sewing, just hanging in there until it kicks in good.
We raise chickens and turkeys and ducks. Yes they are loud but the kids are louder!
My other half is a computer tech for a phone co. and he has drove me crazy for the last 5 + yrs with it, so now it's my turn with the embroidery machine! (I took over part of the computer desk and am slowing taking over the computer room and converting it into my sewing room, SSSHHH! Don't tell him yet!):bg:
I enjoy a little of everything, mostly swimming and sewing and of course shopping! I have tons of projects either in the works, in the thinking process or partially finished. I don't clean house often enough and supper is always late! Even with a crock pot, seems it just gets later and later!
So now you know my secret! Don't tell my MIL!
