I have the opportunity to buy a very slightly used Elna for $650. She bought it new for $799 and has only put a few hours on it. After hearing a lecture from Nancy Odom the owner has decided to buy a Bernina. Is this a good enough price?

Would I be crazy in offering her $500? ... or would I be embarrassing myself?

I cant help you with the price 'cause I dont live in US but it is a nice machine I have the 6005 next model up which has alphabets and 2 more button holes. Other than that I thought that both models sewed pretty much the same You will like the button holes in my opinion not so much fiddling as needed on the equivalent Bernina
I have just had a go at free motion quilting and my machine handled the various threads I tried well without alot of fiddling.
Check with your dealer what the going rate is or have a look on ebay

Mom of 3,
I would check with a couple of local dealers and see what that machine (or a comparable one) would run new and used. That would give you a good idea if the price is fair. Consider also whether or not there would be any warranty- just another cost factor to consider to level the playing field. You can always ask if $500 would be accepted- the worst that can happen is being told no, but there may be room for negotiation. Good Luck.
