I'm trying to identify an older industrial sewing machine (black in colour) that has the # 96K10 imprinted on a small metal plate on the front of the machine and the # Y5611312 imprinted on a plate on the base of the machine. It looks like it could be a Singer sewing machine but there is no Singer designation anywhere to be found on the machine.

Can anyone help. I'd like to identify the manufacturer (it appears that the manufacturer's name plate has fallen off or has been removed) , find out when it was made, learn a little about the history of the machine and hopefully find a manual.

Thanks

Glenn

Hi Glen, 1st do you have a Sewing/Vac center near you? If so, take i to them and there's a chance they'll know about it. You could also try looking on ebay to see if you spot a machihne that looks like yours.

You could also try doing a search on any search engine for sewing centers in your area...

Here's a few links to browse for help.

Thanx for the help guys. I located the manual, learned (among other things) how to thread the machine and it works perfectly. Not bad for a $75.00 (C) investment.

Another Q. though - I've been cleaning up the machine and each of the holes in the top of the machine (for oiling purposes) is packed with some material designed to hold the oil and wick it into the machine. What is this material and where can I get some? My local Singer sewing Centre (Duh) drew a blank on this. Can I use something like an absorbant felt material as a substitute?

Thanx
