Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

I was serging some fabric with a rolled hem, and on certain areas of the fabric, the hemmed edge would not attach to the fabric. It was serge in the air for about an inch and then reattach to the fabric and roll hem like it was supposed to. I then tried to re-serge the area with no luck. Then I cut the entire hem off and tried to roll hem that hem again, and it would still skip in that area. I did forget to pre-wash the fabric. Could that have caused this problem? I've never had this happen before!

LOL, "serging in the air"

Usually when mine acts up like that, it's because it is not threaded properly or there is a snarl in the threads somewhere. The thread can slip out from some of the assigned grooves rather easily on my machine.

That might be it. My serger is new and I'm still getting used to it. My old one finally "kicked the bucket".

I'll watch for threading problems!

Thanks!

Hello: what size needle were you using & what kind of fabric--sometimes that makes a difference. Some fabrics you can not roll hem. Prewashing does sometimes help but usually doesn't make a difference.

Everytime I have problems with skipped stitches...

overlapping thick seams.... serger much slower and I make sure the fabric is linned up properly

wrong sized needles... when I am serging through 4 layers of heavier fabric (not a good move)

my needles are not set properly (not high enough in the machine)

Hope this helps... are the same places the stitches hit the air where you are overlapping other seams?

Hi--when the needles are not high enough in the serger, it usually won't even serge. Make sure the needles are in all the way up. Sometimes when skipping stitches you need to change to a new needle, make sure you throw the old one out right away cause you don't need it to give you a problem down the road. The needle could be bent or blunt.

Make sure the serger is threaded proper.

It is hard to serge thick seams especially overlapping, serge slowly & don't pull the material behind the pressure foot.

You can change the presser foot pressure usually on the left side of the serger. Most sergers have this feature. Some sergers have this feature on the top. Check your manul. Hope this is helpful

This happend to me once, but if you get enough fabric in under the presser foot it shouldn't happen, also try using some tissue paper underneath so as to get a grip of the fabric and stablize it.Check your stitches on scrap too.:bg:
If at first you don't suceed, try-try again!
