I am making pants from polyester satin backed crepe and I am wondering how successful serging would be on the seams as I am having trouble getting the seams to hang nicely. It would be a whole lot easier for me just to serge them as I have unpicked the seams once after sewing on my sewing machine. Does anyone have an opinion on serging these seams? |

Hi--I would serger the seams from the hem to the waist & lightly press the seam towards the lower looper side of the seam. If you are used to serging with woolly nylon thread - I would use the woolly nylon on both loopers & needle. Becareful when pressing using woolly nylon thread because it will melt with a hot iron. |

foxy, thanks for your reply, after using a microtex needle and having the pants pressed at the cleaners they looked pretty good. Strange thing was the stitching ended up looking fine but when worn not hanging so good. However, this New Look pattern 6029 needs to be size 8 I would say two sizes below my daughters hip measurement so I have altering to do, I could try your way or Louise Cuttings One Seams Pants thread on sewing world so thank you. I will keep both ways in mind. The crossover wrap top on the same pattern looks lovely on my daughter. Thanks again. |
