I am having a problem with my overlocker stititch, although the stitch looks fine to me and there is no puckering, the fabric tunnels I thing it is called, within the stitching. It has happened with poly/crepe and poly/cotton crushed looking lightweight material. I cant really find info. about this particular problem in my books, and have fiddled to no avail. Can anyone give me advice please? |

It sounds like your serger is creating a rolled hem or a picot (sp?) stitch. (that is an option on my serger.) Check your stitch width; the tension on your presser foot (if that is adjustable) , are you using your left or right needle or both? Check your manual for the machine settings for a normal overlock stitch. Also, are you serging just one layer of fabric? Oh, do you have your stitch finger in? ==Brenda Lou

Merry Christmas--- I would be serging light weight material with the right needle & have a good three thread balanced serge. some of the cause is that maybe your upper or lower looper may to tight & the fabric cannot lay flat within the serge. The lower & upper looper thread should meet at the edge of the material--in other word KISS the edge. Hope this helps. Have a good & healthful Christmas |

Thank you both for your replies, I will have a thorough check, everything takes so much longer to understand when it comes to overlocking, by the time I look it up etc., however, I guess practice makes perfect as they say. Thank you and merry xmas plus a happy new year! |

Did you try loosening you r needle thread, that happend to me whereby there was a ridge type where the needles sew,so I loosened just the needle dial a wee bit and it fixed the problem.
If at first you don't suceed, try-try again!

Hi Llantrisant, thanks for your suggestion, I did try loosening the needle tensions, but still was not happy, however, I am going to good serger classes next month, so have put the problem aside for now. Thanks again. |
