Can anyone recommend a good recently published serger book?
The ones on the internet which show a publishing date are all around 1992. Some don't show the publishing dates and may be more recent but how do you tell?
Sergers have changed and developed a lot since 1992 so if you know of a good one that is up to date would you please post the title.
Thanks,
Lise

Serger Savvy is a new one on the market. I believe it came out in early 2003. I cannot remember the author but I hope this helps.

Lise,

What kind of serger do you have? I think the basics of the serger are still pretty much the same, so the old books are still appropriate.

Are you looking for a book to help with techniques and uses of a serger, or are you looking for one with serger projects?
Take care,
Donna

I have an Elna 744 and need help with uses and technique. I'll look up Serger Savvy. Thanks to both who replied.

Is the Elna 744 a 5-thread with coverstitch?

I saw the Serger Savvy book and wasn't really impressed. (Just my own opinion, of course). It is basically a book of projects, with some technical info at the end of the book.

I would highly recommend any of the following books:

Serger Secrets
Singer Sewing With an Overlock
ABCs of Serging
Take care,
Donna

Hi--a very good serger book is ABCs of Serging by Tammy Young and Lori Bottom. It also has good hints. Enjoy

I agree with Foxy, the ABC'S OF Serging is the best. I'd bought 2 different serger books but they weren't that much help concerning learning from the start. My manual is fine as long as you know something about a surger. So, I went to the library & checked out several & the one that hits the mark for me is the one Foxy said. Now I'll buy that one as it's not legal to print any of the contents. So may I suggest you go to the libary & check some out before buying to see what's best for you.

Am so excited as I just got my new book called Serge Art by Diane Bossom. Clotilde.com has it on special for $10 and it is "wearable art for the creative serger". Cannot wait to read thru it and find some fun projects to try. The book was published in 1999 by Krause Publications. I think I hit the jackpot.
Happy Stitching!

Hi--I hope you enjoy the ABC book as much as I do. I have been serging for many years & still go to that book to look up different items & also enjoy the hints that they have in the blocks. Happy Serging!!!

Serge Ahead by Nancy is at:

http://www.nancysnotions.com/

But it's $17.95 snd I believe you may be able to get a copy of this or just about any book at www.amazon.com for much less.

I just bought last week a new Evlove serger. I also bought a book called Serger Secrets. It seems to be a good one. I'm going to look for the other books you al have mentioned too.

Diana, I would love to know what you think of your new machine. I may soon be in the market for a new serger.

Mary,
I'm working through the workbook doing all the different seams. I've watched the video and I can say I'm impressed with all the Evolve can do. I've never had a serger, didn't want one because of the difficulty in threading them. I haven't much patience! But this one threads like a dream.

Hello everyone! I am brand new to this site and am loving what i am finding. I have been looking at serger books, also, and have found the one noted above. The author is Chris James and the publisher is Sterling Publishing. It seems excellent to me and it has lots of pictures.

Also, if any of you are beginner seamstresses, The Complete Book of Sewing, published by Dorling Kindersley is awesome!!

I think I have most of the books that have already been mentioned and they are some of the best. I have some more that have not been mentioned and some are a bit older but still good. This one has many nice pictures and more up to date it is Serger Shortcuts (Tips, Tricks, and Techniques ). Others not as up to date are Serge Something Super for your Kids.. Easy Guide to Serging Fine Fabrics, 2 older but pretty good ones but not as up to date are Serged Garments in Minutes and the other is The New Creative Serging Illustrated..

Hi Charley, welcome to Sew Whats New.

I have Secrets for Successful Sewing by Barbara Weiland. Published in 1997 it covers an awful lot of things that my serger can't do. Very up to date.
