In our community, the Babylock Imagine retails around $999.00. I'm not that familiar with Janome sergers. The Janome.com website might have the answers that you seek.
Happy Stitching!

The compulock came out a while ago. It is an awesome macine. The 744D is an upgrade on the 634D the difference is that the 734D has a free arm.

The compulock runs about 2400.00 and in our area the 744D is runnind 679.00 and the 634D is running 599.00

The compulock is computer controled. I love it cause it has the coverstitch and the best part is that you tell the serger I am sewing this fabric with this thread and this many layers and it adjust accordingly. NO playing with the tensioners. Is it the upper looper or the lower looper or the needle thread

i confess I still do a test stitch but it is always great.
The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

Hey there,

I previously owned the 644D (the older 744D) and loved it. It was a great little work horse.

I upgraded to the babylock evolve ( I think just one up from the imagine) and I am thrilled with my decision.

I looked at both the compulock and the babylock and found the babylock a much better deal. You can not beat the jet air threading, not to mention the auto tension adjustments...awesome!!

If $$ is the issue the 744D is one of the best little sergers ever, but if you have the extra $$ I would go with the babylock, they are a dream!!

Thanks everyone for answering my questions. It is a matter of money right now, so I am trying to get something that will work for me. Can someone tell me what the difference is between the 734 and the 744? I am going to order it off the internet. It would take me 2hrs to drive where I could check them out, then 2hrs back. So this forum is a life line for me.

The 744D is the a free arm that has the fastest speed of the mechanical. The 734D is the 634 with a free arm

To tell you the truth I loved my 634 and it worked great for me and I sew for a living I just had to have the cover stitch

The 744D stitches up to I believe 1300 per min.

The 734D and the 744D are very simular but we are incouraged to sellthe 744 to people that do a high volume of sewing between clenings.

They are replacing the 634 and the 644 with these machines. the other main difference is the paint job
The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!
