Is there a general rule of thumb as to what is the best way to serge pieces together? I got to thinking about this last night. Are there applications that it is better to do it one way or the other?
Thanks,
Jolene

I think that is general a personal preference. I like to clean finish my seams with a serger but sew them together. I do this for two reasons, the seams have a nice edge and don't fray. If I use a 5/8 seam, I still have alteration room but I'm sure that among people with sergers, I'm a minority.

hi==I serge most everything with the serger---three threads---right needle for finer fabrics & for heavier fabric---left needle. Three threads give you stretch in your seam & four threads gives you strength in your seam. the stitch length that i usually use is 3. No problems with seams coming apart & makes the sewing much faster.
