I have a Simplicity SL350 Serger on loan indefinitely from a friend - her mom bought it for her, and she hasn't tried to learn how to use it yet. (!!!) It is a brand-new machine and I am hoping to learn serger basics with it.

I am going to make a dress for a Halloween costume and I am wondering how to use the serger to finish my seams. The dress has a 1/2" seam allowance throughout. Do I just serge my seams after I sew them (serge as I go along)?

Any advice is appreciated. I am still messing with the serger tension (managed to thread it all by myself, yay! Once that seems to be in order I will be ready to finish my seams.

You can serge either way...after you sew the seams or before...both work.
Just remember that when you serger the seams, they must be either tied off or fray checked so they don't unravel.
