I could be wrong but I thought you had to use stretchy material in order to have a lettuce edge so unless you have stretchy tulle I would personally say I don't think it's going to happen. What are you making to need lettuce edging on tulle? Maybe there's another solution for your requirements.

mesissy, sometimes it depends on which side of the fabric you serge on to get the desired look. You said you are stretching the fabric..I assume you meant that you have your differential feed set on stretch. Yes, set it on stretch, If no diff. feed stretch both in front and back of the foot, use a 2 or 3 thread rolled hem narrow stitch and Wooly nylon thread is good but I have used others. You can get a lettuce edge on wovens, especially when bias cut.

Whoops I always forget something..I also meant to say to increase your pressure foot pressure and shorten your stitch lenghth. This usually helps and I hope it does.

I would think the only way to get a lettuce edge on tulle would be if it was cut on the bias.

With my doll clothes, I cut strips of tulle for the neckline and also use a tulle overlay on the skirts. While I'm not getting the full lettuce effect edging, just by pulling it in front and pulling behind, I get a little more of a ruffly effect than if you just serged normally, if that makes any sense.

What Mary said about serging the bias and stretching makes more sense as far as getting your full lettuce effect. Thanks Mary, I'm gonna have to try that. It never really occurred to me to try the bias, but rufflier would be even cuter on Barbie clothes.

Good luck!
