My friend has a new in the box White 234DE serger that she is afraid to use so has offered to sell it to me cheap. She has never even tried it out.
Is this a good serger? I have never used one myself and just want one to finish the edges of projects ...and other simple things.
Have any of you ever used this model machine? Is it durable? I read some bad things about the Whte 1600 but good things about the White 2000...so I assume it depends on the model ,.I have been to Pattern Reviews and found one review but it wasn't very informative. Any help appreciated.

Sorry I don't have info on the White and I am surprised that you didn't find more info from PatternReview on some of their back pages. There is also Epinions.com and a quilters review. Hope this helps.

I have a White Speedylock serger, model SL234D. I love it. Easy to thread, has a differential. You do have to change the plate to do rolled hems, but that is about it. It did come with a hemmer foot and a ruffler foot, video, a box of tools,a blade, and instruction book. I'd say go for it if the price is right and the only thing you want to do is finish seams and do simple projects. Mine has been going strong for 3 years now and gets a workout. I have had to change the blade once but it came with the machine. Simple maintenance, cleaning and oiling is all it requires to keep it humming along.

Klynne, I looked at Epinions and everywhere. I Googled and I could find out nothing about this particualr machine. Wierd ..I thought everything in the world was on the computer!! :whacky:

Sewingrandma, THANK YOU! That is just what I was looking for! I dont know what the E is for on this machine but I think it is the same machine as yours. The price is very low so I think I will buy it..it sounds like it will do what I want it to do.

sewverysewy, did you try asking about this serger at Sewingworld Commons? That is a large group. But if you get this serger I hope you enjoy it.

I have a White Superlock 1934D. It was a cheap one from JoAnns but all I could afford I love it most of the time. Threading can sometimes be a problem but it just takes time & then I am back & running again.

I bought my first White 534W in 1984 and used it alot. (Same machine but without differential feed) It has been a faithful machine with no problems. Threading is always a bit time comsuming but once you learn the tie and pull it thru method things go faster. When I opened my business last year and need more sergers I went on the hunt for more White 534's. I found 3 and when each arrived I set them up and used them instantly, with no problems at all. In 20 years I have not had the urge to even go look at a new serger, thats how happy I have been with mine! Good luck with yours.

grandmasue, I can tell you enjoy your serger. I know that not too long ago White had the top rated serger. I also loved the older Babylocks. My Babylock only had a broken looper tension when I traded it in. I like my new sergers but wish I would have kept the Babylock too.
