I got a new serger for x-mas and have been teaching myself to use it by sewing free preemie patterns that I found on the web. As they are small even if I ruin what I am working on I don't waste a lot of material or time. I can't image not having a serger now that I have one. It is so nice not to have to fight with the fabric to try and finish raw edges. Before my zig zag stitches were really leaving me frustrated and it is so nice to be able to eliminate that whole step. The best part is knowing I can donate what I make and get a nice little tax deduction and maybe make up for some of what we spent on buying this machine to begin with. It is a real win, win, situation. I have made a total of 22 preemie drawstring gowns, reduced some of my fabric stash I didn't know what to do with, learned how to use my serger, and will get a nice tax deduction for my efforts, plus feel good knowing I will help clothe a baby that would be too small for any off the rack garments. I am so happy, just wanted to share. |

Lilac- That was so nice of you to make those preemie gowns. I too love my serger and would be lost without it. I have a 1988 Singer- (obsolete by now) but she still runs great. Happy serging! Penny. |
