Got this from my brother in an email: Two tourists were driving through Nova Scotia . As they were approaching Shubenacadie, they started arguing about the pronunciation of the town's name. They argued back and forth until they stopped for lunch. As they stood at the counter, one tourist asked the blonde employee, "Before we order, could you please settle an argument for us? Would you please pronounce where we are... very slowly?" The blonde employee leaned over the counter and said: "Tiiimmmmm Hoorrrrttoooonnnssss" - Brenda -

To the American reader: This joke above is definitely understood by the Canadians (or at least should be!) Tim Horton's is pretty "famous" in Canada - they are supposedly to have the best HOT coffee (I am not a coffee drinker but I hear everyone says that) and they have the best donuts (always fresh) - they are on just about every corner in most cities (just like you see a McDonald's here in the USA). If you get a chance to see Tim Horton's - go in ... you won't regret it! - Brenda -

BRG...Good one! I'm going to send this to the guys at work. They go to Tim Hortons every day at break time. They'll appreciate it for sure.

Hey Judy - not to be nosy or anything - which part of Ottawa/Gatineau are you from? We used to live in Ottawa south (South Keys) on Bank St. then to Gloucester (Bank/Albion) and now my dad lives just outside of Metcalfe/Russell.

BRG, I'm not a native of Ottawa but I did live in Vanier for 7 years - Beechwood/St. Laurent area. Now I live in Gatineau but I work in downtown Ottawa...hence the Ottawa-Gatineau for my location. I'm not that familiar with Ottawa South. I'm more familiar with the East and West Ends.

I used to work in DT Ottawa ... IDRC (International Development Research Centre) - I remember that organization had a lot of Quebeckers workin' there ... cross the river from Hull and into Ottawa ... they loved Civic Holiday as they get the holiday but most of their neighbours didn't.

Still a lot of Quebeckers working across the river...rush hour traffic to the bridges!!!! Now a "civic" holiday happens in both Quebec and Ontario but in different months. I like the one in Ont as it is always the first Monday in August and gives me a long weekend. Qué's civic holiday is on June 24th no matter what day of the week it falls on. With the gov't offices on both sides of the river, the Ont offices tend to be empty on June 24 and Que offices empty on first Monday in Aug. Spouses working in different provinces taking holidays to be together. TTFN from
