I just had a nasty hour or so with my serger. It seems the thread I usually use doesn't agree with it any longer. It is the usual generic stuff from Fabricville. Does anyone know of a good online Canadian source for serger thread?

Mary, I don't know whether this would work for you. Milltown is the Canadian distributer for Aurifil Threads - from Milan Italy. They are located in Arnprior, Ontario (approx. 30 minutes from Ottawa). I met them in May at a quilt show in Ottawa. I purchased some of their plain grey thread to do quilt piecing and varigated thread for machine quilting. I like it. Their site does mention that Aurifil thread can be used for serging thread. Here's the link if you want to take a look.

Sorry to hear that...I thought they would be better at responding and interested in business. I am still using up the thread I bought in May so haven't needed to order any yet. But I was hoping that this would be a good place to order on-line. Guess not. :bluesad:

Mary, Donna M posted this Canadian site in BC re another question in General Sewing. When I saw that they have serger threads as well thought I would let you know about it.

Mary, I am going to be attending the Inspirations Needlecraft Show in Ottawa on Oct 28 & 29. I see that Milltown threads is one of the exhibitors. I'm going to ask about their "email service" and see what they say. If I get any info I will let you know.

Mary, On Friday I went to the Inspirations Needlecraft Show in Ottawa and spoke to Barb Robinson from Milltown. I told her that you have a sewing web-site in Halifax and had tried contacting them via email re serger thread, etc. but that you never got a response from them. Barb said that they do answer and take orders, etc. via email. She said that something must have happened and your email got lost in cyberspace (???).

Just wanted to give you an update.

And more than I could afford but managed to spend anyways. Saw Alto's QuiltCut2 - fabric cutting system. First time I've seen or heard of this but price tag of approx. $400 Cdn was a little too steep for me. Saw demos of the new Janome MemoryCraft 6600 and the 11000. Also, found a use for a gadget that I had bought a year ago and never used...the fabric folding pen. At a session with Joanne from Joanne's Creative Notions she said she uses this pen to do all of her hems. I never thought of using it for that but...I have a few new pairs of pants that need hemming and I'm gonna try this out.

Also, met a lady, Anita Zobens, from Dundas Ont. who sells threads (including Aurifil), stencils and books from Australia for continuous line patterns for hand and machine quilting. Bought two books and have her web-site http://www.cottonmillthreadworks.com added to my favourites. She was also at the show in Toronto.
