YOU KNOW YOU ARE IN ONTARIO IN JULY
(especially this year) WHEN. . .

-The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.
-The trees are whistling for the dogs.
-The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.
-Hot water now comes out of both taps.
-You can make sun tea instantly.
-You learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.
-The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a little chilly.
-You discover that in July it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car.
-You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.
-You actually burn your hand opening the car door.
-You break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m.
-Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"
-You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.
-The potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add butter, salt and pepper.
-Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs.
-The cows are giving evaporated milk.

Ah, what a place to call home.
God Bless Our PROVINCE OF ONTARIO!
(Ok, some are a bit of a stretch but funny just the same)

My neighbour just told me that his aunt came up from Florida to escape the heat and humidty and was not impressed that it was the same temperature here in Canada as it was in Florida. Some times you just don't win!

Mary is keeping the cool stuff to herself now Bren. Come winter she'll send plenty down this way and you will get it too.
After this summer we sure deserve a nice mild winter, don't you think?

It's hot everywhere!

This year we had a wedding to attend in Toronto, so we decided to try and
make a vacation out of it...we(husband, teenaged son & daughter, and I) went on a 19-day camping road trip. We took four days to get to Toronto, spent five nights there(at Bronte Creek Park in Oakville), and then headed back to Houston, stopping and camping in various places along the way. We have a pop-up camper trailer(our personal motel), so it wasn't too bad, and we did get an air conditioner installed in the trailer before we left...I don't
think we would have survived without that! It was hot, hot, hot all the
way to Ontario and back! We would have had absolutely no reprieve from the heat.

Anyway, we passed through 15 or so states + Washington, DC, and one
province. We saw some beautiful scenery and stayed in some nice
parks...Burns Park in Little Rock, AR; Memphis East, TN; Caesar's Creek, OH;
Little Bennett, MD; Myrtle Beach, SC; Stone Mountain, GA; Bayou Segnette,
LA(my personal favourite, though it was the 'buggiest' ).

The hardest part was the 'driving days'...up at 5:30 to break camp, drive
all day(10-minute break every two hours, + an hour for lunch), then set up
camp in the evening...not a lot of fun when everyone is cranky.
Take care,
Donna

Dmoses, how did you like Bronte Park? We keep saying we are going to check it out but haven't yet. We like biking - about 18 miles every time we go out. Did you notice if they have any long bike/hiking trails there? We are about 3 hours from there but we aren't campers - we like the comfort of soft beds and hot showers in the next room.

Hi mamhoogie,
Regretfully, we didn't get to see much of that park because we spent most of our days in Toronto with my husband's family(my husband, son, & daughter were all involved in the wedding ceremony), and came back to the park at night. What we did see was very nice.

The day-use park is separate from the campground(separate entrance, even a different exit from the highway!) This is a link to the park's website. It has clickable links to the different activities and facilities. It does have a number of trails, for hiking and/or biking.

Bronte Creek Provincial Park (www.ontarioparks.com/english/bron.html)

Hope this helps!
Take care,
Donna

Hi, thanks. We have checked out the website before but some of the parks have hiking trails that bikes cannot possibly go on - or are not allowed on - so I was looking for someone who actually has been there. Too bad you didn't get to enjoy the park more but Toronto is a very lively place to visit - lots to do there. We take the train there to see the Broadway shows or take in a ball game.
I would love to travel across Canada and the USA by car or a motorhome - the only thing stopping us is $$$. Maybe someday!

It was a very good trip! We don't usually get to go anywhere, except home to see family. This was one of only a couple of real 'vacations' that we've been able to take...We hope to do more travelling with the camper(now that we have air conditioning).

I didn't realize it before, but I really like being close to nature...at least, to visit! :bluewink:
Take care,
Donna
