I'm just venting so bear with me please.
In June I adjusted my machine and did a beautiful cover stitch to hem a jacket for my daughter.
Yesterday I tried again and threaded and re-threaded and threaded again and couldn't get it to work.
I was trying to use regular thread in the needles and finally gave up and went with serger thread. That worked much better. But then I thought a different color in the looper. Guess What!! I couldn't get it right again. I know it is me, not the machine. I'll try again in a week or so in a top I'm going to make.
I finally gave up and went with a blind hem on the regular machine.

Hi Dorothy

I know we've both got the same pfaff serger and we're both new to it. The only times I've had problems is when I have been using different weight threads and then I had to change the tension rather than leave it to do it itself. For instance, I was doing a rolled hem on a chiffon scarf (sort of as a test) and only wanted to buy one reel of cotton as it was so expensive. I ended up putting some on a bobbin to use on the needle and the other I used on the looper. Whatever I did just wouldn't work. My DH eventually said how about changing the tension and I naturally said you don't have to on this machine its automatic. When he left the room I tightened the tension and voila it was fantastic.

One thing with the normal thread, you could try using the nets that came with the machine if you haven't done that already. The other thing is that I use the clear foot. It's not that clear in the manual but that's the coverstitch foot. The other thing is that the looper thread has to go through the far left guide on the floor of the serger (which is only used for the coverstitch). Sometimes I forget that and put it in the chainstitch guide.

I'm sure you've tried all those things. But I'm not sure if I can think of anything else that will help. My teacher reminded me that the needle thread must go through the front thread holder (can't think of the right word) just above the needle when you're using coverstitch.

Hope you get it working, because so far I've had no trouble with mine except when I couldn't get the foot plate on the machine to sit flat and then it didn't like doing anything.

Cheers
Maree

Dorothy, sorry you are having coverhem problems but I see you mentioned you went to your rgular sewing machine for a blind hem. Have you tried blind hemming on your serger? Sergers do a great blind hem and very quickly.

Kylnne--
At that moment all I was doing with the serger was trying not to throw it out the window!
I know it was some stupid thing I was doing and I'll try again in the near future.

LOL Dorothy..I'm glad you didn't through it through the window. Maybe now your serger will behave better knowing it's life has been saved to go on to do better things.

Can sympathize with you Dorothy. Been there and almost threw the serger out the window. I can usually go have a coffee break and come back, then I pull all the threads out of the needles, make sure everybody is in the right place, then rethread my needles in the correct order. Most times it works, but I know there has been some colorful language coming out of the sewing room at times!!

Guess what! I did it! Yesterday I adjusted and threaded the machine for a cover stitch hem and it worked just perfect. I am a happy serger again!
