Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to fix this. Im new to serging world bought frontier SL390 Simplicity 4thread serger. Hear clicking sound when turning handwheel backwards, turn wheel to front and stops when needles down can not go forward anymore but can go back all the way but with clicking. I own two of these both did it before but do to memory problem can not remember how to fix. Was something so simple but need help now. Bought at Walmart so no one to help me. Rethreaded, taken apart, new needles, nothing working for me.
Thanks Loretta

Loretta you should never turn the handwheel on a serger backwards. Sergers are not made to run in reverse. It sounds like your machine may be out of time and the clicking sound you hear are the loopers hitting one another. I don't know if you have a repair shop nearby in your area but if you do, that's where I would call. That is the one big drawback to buying sewing machines and/or sergers at Wal-Mart; if and when they need repair, there's no one to call.

And oh, yes. Welcome to Sew-Whats-New.

Make sure that the needles are pushed all the way up in the needle holders.
Take care,

As Patsy posted turning the hadwheel backwards can actually damage your serger. Some coverlock models do require a slight backturn of the wheel to remove coverhem stitches but on my coverhem I just use the needle tension release. If your serger is not making any noise when going forward then hopefully all is ok. As to why nothing happens when you sew..be sure your looper cover door is closed all the way and that your pressure foot is down.

Thank you to all that responded. I received an email from simplicity on my serger! They said needs to be sent in for technicians. It's a simple problem because it happend before and I fixed just cant remember. No more Wal-mart sergers for me. I may be new to serging but have learned my lesson fast. LOL

I'm having the very same problem. I suspect my loopers are out of adjustment or bent. The lower looper is trying to go behind the upper looper and I don't think that's right. Did you get your problem resolved?

Thalia, could you be threading out of order? When threading your needles last do you still have this problem?

Thanks, I did make sure I was threading the needles last, I guess I'll be sending the machine back for a new one.
