Hello all, I found this forum while researching sergers, as I am looking to buy one shortly and have been researching. Checking with 3 of my local shops, my 2 best options seem to be the Elna 683 or the Pfaff Hobbylock 4752. I am looking in the app $400 range and these fit that price range. I wanted to ask if anyone had any knowledge or preference? The Elna seems to be a better buy, but what do I know thank you for any input |

I have a Pfaff sewing machine and a Pfaff serger so I admit to being a bit partial. I just wanted to say, before you buy anything ask your dealer about a re-box or demonstrator model or something of that sort. I got hundreds off my serger because it was a "re-box." It had been used to teach dealers how to demonstrate the machines. They examine, test and clean it so it is like new and it comes with the same warranty as a new one. The other brands may have a similar program or the dealer may have a demonstration model they are willing to sell cheaper with the same warranty as new. My sewing machine was one of these, again with the same warranty as new and hundreds cheaper. If you look for it you might be able to get a higher priced model for even less than you are looking at now. In your position I'd base my decision on the dealers. Which one offers the best support -- lessons and the like. But check out the "not quite brand new options" first. Dorothy |
