This is a true story, from the Orange County (FL) Sheriff's office... An elderly Florida lady did her shopping and, upon returning to her car, found four males in the act of leaving with her vehicle. She dropped her shopping bags and drew her handgun, proceeding to scream at the top of her voice, "I have a gun, and I know how to use it! Get out of the car!" The four men didn't wait for a second invitation. They got out and ran like mad. The lady, somewhat shaken, then proceeded to load her shopping bags into the back of the car and got into the driver's seat. She was so shaken that she could not get her key into the ignition. She tried and tried, and then it dawned on her why. A few minutes later, she found her own car parked four or five spaces farther down. She loaded her bags into the car and drove to the police station. The sergeant to whom she told the story couldn't stop laughing. He pointed to the other end of the counter, where four pale men were reporting a car jacking by a mad, elderly woman described as white, less than five feet tall, glasses, curly white hair, and carrying a large handgun. No charges were filed. If you're going to have a Senior Moment, make it a memorable one! Laura

Gee, guess it could be me! Until I married Bob, I had never had my hands on a gun..they scared me. Bob taught me how to shoot and how to handle a gun and I found out I am very good at it. I have a concealed carry license and don't go out alone without my pistol. I have a special fanny pack that holds the gun and is easy to get out. I never thought I would be one to carry a gun, but with so many crazies out there (especially in our area) I now feel a little safer. It has been proven that in states that have conceal/carry laws, crime has decreased. Seems like the bad guys don't like having guns pointed at THEM! Sue |

Dorothy, actually the local police departments and state police officials have put out the reports. I used to think the same way, not knowing anything about fire arms. My thinking has changed. Just last night there was a local news story where a man tried to rob a convience store by taking away the entire cash register. The owner of the store pulled his gun and the robber ran. The robber was armed, but he didn't like a gun pulled on HIM. Sue |
