Hi all, I purchased a brand new serger on 3-24-06 from an authorized dealer model is a singer cg754.. Problem is I just went to use it for the first time, and for some reason it wont work... it is plugged in, and the light comes on, and when i press the foot pedal, i hear the motor running, but nothing happens, the hand wheel does not turn, the feed dogs dont move the thread does not move at all... Now when I turn the wheel manually it works, but NOT when I press the foot pedal.. What is going on? this is supposed to be a brand new never used before machine.

please any help is greatly appreciated

A lot of them won't work if the looper cover is open. Is yours closed properly?

Many won't work unless the presser foot is down either. The sergers are so dangerous because of the knives that there are usually some pretty good safety features built in.

It really sounds like the belt is not snug. This is the kind of thing that can happen during shipping, and should be caught in the dealer's "check up" before it leaves the shop. Did they stitch it in before you got it?

It came with a test strip on a piece of green cloth still attached, and the 4 mini spools of white thread. If it is the belt, how do i fix it?

and the presser foot is on the floor.

"and the presser foot is on the floor"

No it isn't. That is your foot pedal. The presser foot is what the fabirc passes under. make sure you have the lever set all the way down. If it is a belt you can't fix it yourself, the dealer you bought it from would have to fix it for you.

Dawn, From what you descibed it is what Bill said. Your belt is either off or loose. Not a serious problem at all but your dealer should have test stitched the machine and caught it.
Have fun or don't do it, Tom
