This serger was donated to our church sewing room missing a few parts. I was able to get a pressure foot from our local singer dealer and rig a foot control from a defunct sewing machine. It now works fine but seems a little slow. Does anyone have any idea what normal speed of this machine is? My Husklock 905 max speed is 1500 s/min, and this machine is similar to my serger when switched on the slow speed. I won't usually be the one sewing on the singer, but am curious if there is a switch somewhere that I am missing or if this machine only has a slower speed. Have a wonderful day. Melanie

Oh what a nice addition! I think it may be 1300 which is only a bit slower, but still a very nice serger. - Robin

It has been my (limited) experience that with Singer machines they do tend to run a bit slower than other brands. My serger (a 3 thread) is advertised to go at 1100 SPM, but I haven't actually tried to time it....yet!

The "J" and "CM" series of Singer sergers do run slower than most others. If I am not mistaken the "J" series is rated at 1100 spm... Pretty slow for a serger but running it faster could cause serious problems. Just to make sure it is running as fast as it should (its hard to count 1100 stitches in 1 minute) and not a bad foot control you can open the foot control and put a jumper wire across the two wire contacts. It should run the same speed as with the foot control fully depressed. Be sure the machine is oiled. Lack of oil can slow it down and cause premature wear. Have fun or don't do it, Tom

I'm thinking of buying this machine. It says it's semi-commercial. It seems to have all the features I'm looking for at a $200 price range. Any opinions on this machine? Any opinions on how does this Singer compare to a Janome? Thanks, Amy |

There is nothing semi commercial about this machine, it is just a nice little home serger. That "commercial" ebay listing is just a scam to get your attention. The price on the auction is reasonable, about what you would expect to pay at a local dealer, but at the dealer you wouldn't have to pay the shipping and you would get the service. I guess it is enough said. I saw that ebay auction when it was posted on another board. Machine is ok, price is ok, listing title is scammy. Just my opinion. Melanie

It was an ebay auction description. She didn't mention it here, but it was discussed on the patternreview forum. I thought I would say it here as well, in case someone is looking here later. I think she ended up looking at Juki
