Why is it that when I am serging a finished edge on terry cloth, the machine kicks the thread out of the right needle? On cotton fabric, the machine does just fine, but on terry cloth, the thread comes out of the right needle, although none of the other loopers or left needle are affected. Anybody got any words of wisdom? Tom, are you out there? HELP???????????????????? Joni

Gee that is a good question. I think my serger does that also. I wonder if it has something to do with the way the upper knife is set or maybe the tension on Terry cloth.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

A needle coming unthreaded is an indication that the needle has skipped a stitch. With terry you are dealing with a thicker fabric and loops that can interfere with the threads ability to form a good loop. Make sure you are using the proper needle not just one that will work. If your serger calls for an EL 705, 2053, HA x 1, or 130/705 use the EL705 or 2053. It will improve the odds that the looper will be able to catch the loop. If it is always the right hand needle that comes unthreaded your lower looper may be timed slightly slow of "ideal" or your needlebar slightly turned to the left. There are so many little possibilities that it is really hard to say without seeing the machine. Make sure your needleplate is in good shape and that the needles in it are not bent or missing.
You might also try loosening the right hand needle thread tension a little. This might compensate enough for the problem.
Good luck.
Correction: the needle 2053 listed should be 2054.

Correction to my earlier post. It is the 2054 needle not the 2053 that is interchangable with the EL705. Sorry
