I recently won an auction for a Singer Merrittlock 14U44B serger. It was advertised as having differential feed, but when I got it, it had no differential feed assembly at all (it also had no cylinder cover, but that's another issue entirely).

Is the differential feed something that I can install myself? I'm pretty handy and mechanically inclined, but I don't want to mess up the machine either, as it seems to work very well and keep it's tensions, etc.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hello and welcome to Sew Whats New.

I have no idea of the answer to your problem but there are a few others here who are very knowledgeable about machines. I am very sure they will be able to help out.

Differential feed is an adjustment on the machine, more like a tension type adjustment. It is not added on like a foot. AS far as I know the only way to get differential feed is to buy a machine that has it.

The 14u44 has differential feed. Which parts have been removed?

Well, when I open the front cover, the machine has the two screw holes and the vertical slot where the differential feed *should* go, but there's no mechanism. As far as what's inside the machine, I don't know.

I should probably take it in to get looked at, huh?

Also, the model number on the back is 14U44B. Does the B make a difference?

Thank you so much for your help! I was hoping you'd chime in on my thread!

It sounds like it is missing the DF "dial", but the dial is on the outside head of the machine, not inside the looper cover door.
