I did get my serger to gather lots of times, but now it doesn't want to cooperate with me. I have lengthened the stitch, turned up the differential feed and tightened the needle tension but it barely gathers. Any tips? ideas? I get a tiny bit of gathering, but not what it used to do.

Laura, you're doing everthing. Is the fabric possibly too heavy? If your serger has an adjustment for presser foot pressure you might check and make sure that it isn't set too light.

The fabric may have been it, it was a scrap of 'scrub' fabric that is used for uniforms. I am finding my serger (Janome Mylock something d) does a pretty good job on really light fabrics, but anything too firm woven or heavy, there's no way it will gather.
