F Susie - you can tell by when water freezes:wink:
I am ashamed that British cars give up the ghost so easily - but lets face it - 2 " of snow and the entire country grinds to a halt!

We had about 18 inches Monday but it's almost gone now.
It was so depressing.

Jan you should see it around New Orleans when it snows. The whole place comes to a stand still. We are trapped by bridges everywhere and they freeze making it impossible to get around because of the way people drive here. :bluesmile If it snowed for more than one day here they would have to call a state of emergency. That's no joke. LOL

Even here, where people drive in snow and ice 4 to 6 months of the year they forget the basics the first snow of the year.

Dorothy that's so true, the first snow of the year is accident central, today however is lovely, 22C, sunny, nice breeze and my neighbors just put in a lovely 4 foot high cedar privacy hedge along the fence line, I think they were tired of looking at all the little tykes plastic:re:
but what they don't know is we have a new cedar play structure in the garage to be built next week, it's at least 10 feet tall when done:up:
oh well, such is life in suburbia (sometimes I miss my 40 acres in the country!!!

Burrrr Vikki you make me cold just thinking about that block of ice.

It was nice here today also, in the 80'sF. Tomorrow I'm going out and clean my car and take in some rays. I'm not looking forward to summer though, :bluesad: the 90'sF LOL

The ice in Newfoundland has even made the news here. I sure wouldn't like to be on one of those ships.

We don't get snow at all in the area where I live but we've had to go through "accident central" a few times recently when it rained. We've had drought here for a few years (worst of all over the last 12 months). It is very slippery indeed for the first hour or so after the rain starts because there's been none at all for weeks on end. And not much when it does come. At the moment if it's raining I'll allow at least double the time I need to go somewhere so I don't need to worry about the traffic jams and/or accidents holding me up.

My dd gets so excited at the moment when it rains that she goes outside and dances around in it. I'm hoping that soon it will return to the feeling of inconvenience and mild annoyance with rain rather than being so happy about it. This is because that will mean we've had heaps.

Pauline, We had a similar experience here last year. When we moved here in November after the hurricane, it didn't rain for about 10 months. Then it was only a little. Now we are getting rain more often almost every week we have a good shower but the ground has been so dry it soaks it up and doesn't stay wet. At least this year I won't have to water the grass and plants I planted.

My DH turns on the heat when it gets down to 69 & sometimes 70. We don't get snow here but have a zillion traffic road wrecks when it rains. Even the snowbirds can't drive on it. Reason being since it's so warm here that when it rains the oil on the roads come to the top & is like driving on black ice in spots. I can get cool in the heat but if I get cold I can't seem to get warm again. I don't get cold as easy as DH though & don't want heat on at 70. I think snow is beautiful before anything walks on it. I love pictures of a fresh snow. We were raised with winter snows. I drove on icey roads & thought nothing of it. I'll stay here though.

Very funny! Having been raised in Chicago but now a 25 year Texas transplant, I have found my tolerance for cold winters has disappeared.

But now, does anyone have a "chart" for the upper temp ranges? I'll have to think about that one. For instance, around here we don't use the word "hot" to describe the day unless it is over 98 degrees (F).

G'nite from warm and windy N. Texas!

That's only a warm day Pam. It doesn't get truly hot till 104. I'm just bragging now.

However my heater goes on anywhere under about 65. And I already have a jumper (sweatshirt) on.
