After hitting every dealer at the show yesterday dh and I realized that BabyLock was very well thought of by professionals and regular folks alike. The simplified jet air threading system really appealed to me.

The dealer we eventually dealt with had Juki sergers out on his tables but actually loved BabyLocks the best. No two booths can feature the same brands apparently and someone had beat him out on the Baby Locks.

After telling him that I'd never had a serger and just wanted a good starter machine he told us about a recent trade-in he had. It's the Baby Lock DX Eclipse model. It's about 6 or 7 years old (I may be wrong there) and we paid $650.00. Anyone know if that's a reasonable price??

We had to go to one of his stores to pick it up and they had thrown in a large pack of needles and a pair of long tweezers. When I got home I found out why. There were none of the accessories that the machine came with originally. None. I called and the service guy said he'd get a package together and get it out to me. He was very friendly but said that you get a trade-in the way it was "traded-in". It did have the foot pedal, cords, video and manual.

I get a free lesson and 20% off all notions in their stores for the "rest of my life" along with a 1 year labor, 10 year parts and 2 year electrical warranty. The owner was a very kind, comfortable man that I immediately trusted so I'm hoping from the above information that I'm not proven wrong.

I haven't done anything with it yet. Wish me luck. I'm about to try......

Any comments???

Lennie

P.S. I called the tech this afternoon and he was very anxious to tell me that he was ordering an entire accessories kit for me. No problem. After his comment yesterday, "you get what we got" his enthusiasm made me think that maybe "boss man" had told him to take care of us.

Congratulations! Although I am not familiar with Baby Lock, I do know they have a great reputation. I would go buy a good book. I've heard a few mentioned here. My book is by Nancy Zieman (Sewing with Nancy), Serge With Confidence.

Have lots of fun, and keep us updated.

Thanks, guys! Mary recommended a book, "Secrets for Successful Sewing" as one that really shows what a serger can do. I'll be checking both out.

lendlube I have a Juki 654 Pearl DE and I love it. It threads easy and I set it and go. The rolled hem is excellent and easy to switch to.
