Sew, What's Up

Sew What’s Up Presents

The Sew What’s New Archive

This archived content is from Mary Wilkins’ sewing and quilting message board “Sew What’s New,” which was retired in August 2007. It is being provided by “Sew What’s Up,” which serves as the new home for many members of “Sew What’s New.”

Someone sent this to me, and I was amazed at how creative people were at coming up with a new word. Thought I'd start a game here, to see how creative we can be:

CHANGE ONE LETTER OF THE LAST WORD POSTED AND SEE WHO GETS STUCK AND CAN'T CONTINUE!
>
> RULES:
>
> 1. YOU CANNOT ADD LETTERS
>
> 2. YOU CANNOT USE FOREIGN LANGUAGES
>
> 3. YOU CAN ONLY CHANGE ONE LETTER

STARTING WORD: FOOT
Peggy

So little time, sew much to do...........

BTW - it doesn't mention in the rules if we're allowed to use the same word twice - because we could easily end up in the same place.

maybe like a pone of cornbread?

yep, here it is:
pone1 /poʊn/
–noun South Midland and Southern U.S.
1. Also called pone bread. a baked or fried bread usually made of cornmeal.
2. a loaf or oval-shaped cake of any type of bread, esp. corn bread.
[Origin: 1605–15, Americanism; < Virginia Algonquian (E sp.) apones, appoans, poan < Proto-Algonquian *apwa·n- thing roasted or baked, deriv. of *apwe·- to roast, bake]

MY MIL calls it that. However, I make my cornbread in muffins tins, not in a large iron skillet like most people around here. Helps with portion control.

ah - thanks Bama. Don't have Cornbread around here - tried some the other week brought by an american to a BBQ and it seemed to be cake to me, not bread.

role to robe

Jan, what state was the American from? Some people put sugar in their cornbread. (I have several northern friends who do) We don't here.

Here's how I make it:
1 cup self rising corn meal
1/4 cup self rising flour
1 egg
Milk (I don't measure it, so not sure how much. Just enough to make it consistency of pancake batter)

Bake in muffin tin at 400 F for about 20 minutes or til golden brown. Makes 12 servings. Of course most people here bake it in a pre-heated iron skillet greased with shortening. Too fattening for me, tho it makes a nicer crust.

Sorry to get of topic, but I love cornbread!

Jan it is supposed to end when someone makes a mistake. We are too nice here to tell someone they messed up so we have just been bypassing the the mistakes & going on.
A mistake is changing more than 1 letter or using a word that has been used before.

hake to hale (as in hale and hearty)
"healthy," O.E. hal "healthy" (see health). The Scottish and northern English form of whole, it was given a literary sense of "free from infirmity" (1734).
